Bears expected to hire Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator

According to Brad Biggs, the belief is the Bears will hire Dennis Allen as their defensive coordinator soon.

The Saints might be the worst job opening in NFL history. they are a lame duck hire to get them through the cap hell and age out the roster, next guy will be there to rebuild.

I wonder why they’re so interested in this guy, he was interviewed for HC as well.
Not sure if it’s merely satisfying Rooney rules protocols or they genuinely see him as a very good coach.
If he is, why isn’t he on the sidelines during a game anymore

He's been flirting with NFL jobs for a number of years now as a HC (probably RR quota) but his luster has died down somewhat in those years.

Thats not true. He knocked back NFL offers at Stanford because he didnt want to jump. his interest only came once his time at Stanford ended and by then the shine had worn off so he didnt look as good

I always thought Shaw was a good coach. And would do well in nfl be a good get for bears. Especially with Johnson leading the way.

Johnson has said he’s continuing to call plays offensively, guess that diminishes the input somewhat

Bears dont have the players for him. he is a 12 or 22 type power run scheme. they dont have the OL and dont have the TEs for it.

We already know Johnson will be calling plays on offense. My suspicion is that the OC hire will be someone with experience to take care of the busy work so that Johnson can focus on getting Williams and the offense on track.

Johnson confirmed such in his interview with Florio/Simms.... he'll be sitting down exclusively with Williams (like he did with Goff) to draw up plays and a playbook that is their own, and will call the plays, but has learned from Campbell it's important to delegate work to his assistants.
