Sorry i heard he was what was his running like at the club?
Maybe in his earlier years?

EDIT: I couldn't find anything from the last couple of years so am just guessing.

There's levels. Hawks team has a few that are in front of him. I think he was top 3 at St kilda. Our list profile for athleticism and endurance is insane as he is no where near our top 3.

I would have loved to keep Josh and you guys have done well to get him. He'll be awesome for you guys. He's very dedicated and is exactly the type every club needs.

But this talk he was top 3 at St Kilda for "athleticism and endurance" is just delusional. He's fit but he was no where near out top 3.

Just on last season: Wilson, Hill, Pou, Windhager, Sinclair, Steele, Wood would have all finished ahead of him

Hell he didnt even finish Top 3 in the junior session when a lot of the senior blokes sit it out: https://www.saints.com.au/news/1473634/first-year-puts-the-foot-down-to-take-out-testing-time-trial

Finished 3rd in 2019, 4th in 2020. Was also the AFL Academy time trial champion and in his debut write up on your own website his ‘elite endurance’ was praised. But, yeah, TFP was clearly ‘delusional’.

2019 was 5 years ago!!!! worth noting we altered the distance for the time trial. i believe we run a 3KM now. i re-call back then we had switched to 2KM.

someone might have more details.

It was hard to find one but I’d struggle to smile if I had this jumper on too

Bringing in players that come from a struggling side give the group a lot of energy, probably won’t be as impactful yet but when you have a winning culture and want to keep driving elite standards bringing in elite players from a losing culture can have huge impacts.

2019 it was also 3km (see link above) but I do take your point that it was a while back. But I'd say that's where the initial comment came from. Just out of date.

yeh my argument to saints fans all this year is we could not afford to lose Josh Battle because he was our only CHB we had. he covers alot of ground, something the other tall defenders cannot do. Dougal Howard can't run out of sight on a dark night, and is continually caught out of position as soon as a forward gets mobile. Cal Wilkie is an amazing defender but again he doesnt have the tank to be a mobile defender.

Josh was our guy running up and back. he was extremely mobile with a good tank. he was our only option. the others are either too green (see Shoenmaker) or don't have the running ability (see Cordy).

Having said that the running ability on the list has significantly improved since 2019. it's been a focus that's turned into a hyper focus under Ross Lyon, who has mentioned the running game is here to stay and it's a focus of his side.

guys like Wilson are elite runners. Brad Hill is, someone that you guys would know all about. Pou is extremely driven and a runner. Sinclair has come on leaps and bounds.

so i think its a case where although Battle was our only CHB option who had a great endurance base, he was by no means our best runner or athlete. he had been surpassed by quite some margin.

I honestly can’t believe that a poster on the Hawthorn board doesn’t have an encyclopaedic knowledge of St Kilda players - your team being such an interesting entity full of the league’s most talented and exciting players. He clearly said ‘I think’ and was just touting Battle’s prowess, which clearly wasn’t out of line, but this has created such a stir that we have your esteemed posters hopping over here to call our posters ‘delusional’. No wonder your club president is a whiny little bitch - seems to flow from the membership up.

Yeah my info was obviously outdated thanks for the update. What I said about levels is true in any case because we separate the runners depending on their endurance. So we currently have 4 different groups that run. Weddle who is clearly our best to Noodle who is now our worst.

Edit: By the way that doesn't change my original comment in that our list for endurance and athleticism is off the charts. I do not have the times for St Kilda's best performers so I will not go down the road of making a direct comparison except to say that no one on St Kilda's list is capable of keeping up with Weddle. He is a freak

you obviously havent heard of darcy wilson who has out performed weddle in every possible metric. standing vertical, running vertical and even the 2KM time trial.

You obviously have not seen Weddle run mate he has gone up several levels since being drafted. He is a deadset freak. I have seen Isaac Smith run and i thought he was one of the purest and effortless runners in the AFL. Brad Hill in his prime couldn't go with him. I think Isaac would run 2nd to Weddle.

Edit: Just to give you an indication of his domination. He won our time trial last year by around 100-120m. We have some really good runners at the club but they all pale in comparison

Well grand final day in 2025 will be exciting for all you Saints supporters then - you might finish runners up in the sprint again!

The dwarf tossers board has gone into meltdown over the misunderstanding of time trial results for Josh Battle.

Saying some unsavoury things about our club and supporters because some little Saint supporter ran to their board saying how arrogant we all are because we believed he was top 3 in some time trial.

FFS don’t they realise slinging mud at ANY OTHER club, makes them all Black Belt Ninja’s in irony. 🤣

It’s funny seeing what worshipping irrelevance does to people.
