This is due to the narrative created by Collingwood and its supporters trying to convince themselves on trading a 20 year old premiership player with plenty of improvement left in him.

I even heard Buckley state as some point last season, how he was surprised with Ginnivan’s improved physique and work ethic. Come on Bucks, I thought you knew better than that.

If you repeat a lie so many times, I guess you can convince yourself to believe it. we all know that a 20 year is nowhere near a finished product, but Collingwood had convinced itself and it supporters otherwise.

It is going to sting them for years to come. As will D’Ambrosio at he Bombers.

What lie are you referring to?

For me it had nothing to do with what posters said on here, and I don't recall anyone really claiming that he wasn't a hard worker. I know the diving and party boy accusations were rife though.

He just looked unfit to me (relative to other AFL players) in the initial club photos for us. I realised I was wrong about him pretty quickly though, after watching him train last season.

They created lies on why he was being traded. And there was plenty stating he didn’t work hard enough in his second year and that he was a flash in the pan. That was a narrative they were setting.
Do you genuinely believe they traded him because he was at the races? Not ideal, but far from a hanging offence.

As soon as he was gone how many Pies supporters did you hear state he would be gone within 2-3 years from the AFL? They hung all sorts of shit on him.

It is why his BOG against them hurt so much. And his cheeky kiss of the hawthorn jersey had then spasming with anger. He has played a huge part in us progressing exponentially in just his first year.

I reckon the guy loves a good time, and he's a smart ass. But there was something weird about his Collingwood exit that I can't quite put my finger on, it seemed like they did try to smear his name on the way out but I don't get why because he talks pretty favourably about the club.

Exactly. He was a Pies smart ass and they loved it back then, but now he is our smart ass and we love him 😀

There is no way they could have thought he was done as an AFL footballer.

Most other supporters if given the opportunity, would give us a Schulz and a first rounder for him.

He is an antagonistic but very smart footballer

If you repeat the same thing over and over it becomes the truth that people believe.

And really the pies have tolerated far worse behaviour

Oh boy do Magpies hate Ginnivan.

Went to that game with mad Magpie supporting father and son friends. Boy did I have fun that day. Oh boy. Ginnivan badge purchased before the game to shit stir them. I bought a glass of champagne in the last quarter and that tipped them over. On the train home by myself

There must be something between him and McRae that we just don't know about it.

I think it's pretty clear that McRae simply can't handle his personality. Ginni already mentioned that McRae pulled him into a meeting the day after their flag win and called him selfish and arrogant. Reckon that was really poor and pathetic from a coach to throw him under a bus like that, especially when you've just won a flag.

And especially when you've already put up with JDG's dickhead antics!

Theirs a reason I call him Clag.

Great article. Thanks Newmo.

What are people’s thoughts on Frost? I’d good best position as a tall or small defender? I think generally it’s to play on mid sized forwards (eg Gunston), but out of the other two I feel he’ll do better against the smalls than he did against the talls. Even though last year he played talk very well.

How are others seeing it play out?

Can’t see Frosty getting too much of a run injuries aside, given our off-season acquisitions.

I think Mitchell is setting up our defense similar to the Geelong ones that always had those 3-4 talls that just seemed to intercept everything against us for 10 years wen they had Mackie and Taylor and Egan (for a season or two) and Lonergan and just seemed to find a tall every year or two and play at least 3 of them in defense at all times.

A rock solid backline and a forward line full of 3 or 4 highly talented smalls - it's taking shape.

Frosty fits this model quite well.
Frost, Scrimshaw, Siciliy, Barass and Battle - all strong defenders and most of them have great footskills.

Yes, I reckon it's nothing more than that. McRae is a very earnest guy (decent no doubt but earnest) if his winners/losers pressers are anything to go by. I reckon Sam is better able to understand Ginnivan.
