Zaire Franklin making all pro is a bit strange given how much ive seen Colt fans say that he actually sucks and is terrible in coverage, lazy voters just looking at the tackle numbers. Bad defences get the chance to tackle more!

Deshawn Watson has reinjured his achilles and is likely to miss the 2025 season. But come 2027, they should be clear of the contract.
--------
The Browns have $44.3 million of Watson’s $46 million base salary covered by insurance.

Yes, this means that the Browns will see $44.3 million put back into their cap space. However, this policy would not be cashed out until after the 2025 season, so the Browns would see that total recouped in their 2026 cap space.

After his latest contract restructure, the Browns are on a timeline to cut Watson with a post-June 1 designation after the 2026 season, so expect that money to be rolled over when they do collect it to completely wash out the dead cap burden of $35 million in 2027 and still have some cash left over to spend from the insurance payment.

Yikes. I guess every agent is going to show this to anyone talking to the Giants and at least 1 other team

I've never liked the non guaranteed contracts in the nfl which encourages the "take a pay cut or your finished" approach by teams. Notice where holding out only really happens in the nfl too? Teams would make reasonable offers over holding people over a barrel. Doing it pregame is a whole new level of garbage.

What a disgrace that he got such leniency (including serving his time in the warden's mansion) and could be back playing football so soon.

I'd be staggered if a team took him on, the optics are horrendous.

People will cite Mike Vick got a second chance...but he was a superstar before his crime....Ruggs was a bust. Still it wouldn't surprise if he got a chance to try out ay least if he still has the athleticism

Take away this guy's massage privileges and he is as brittle as glass.

But can someone clarify...if he is injured are the Browns getting cap release from insurance, just not paying Watson or both?

$44.2 mil of his $46 mil of his base salary is covered by insurance for injury. Doesn't go into effect until end of the 2025 season thou. Basically browns pay watson insurance pays the browns back at end of the season.
It will go back onto the cap but not till 2026 cap. Be like extra carry over cap.

Thanks for that...but in confused by the tweet claiming Watson will also lose $92m in guarantees. Seems like there is an out for the Browns not paying Watson anyway.

This is how we could lose his 92 mil in guarantees.

The primary question is whether he re-tore the tendon doing something that his contract specifically prevents him from doing, under the clauses that guarantee his $46 million salary in 2025 and his $46 million salary in 2026.

Based on his contract, the guarantees void if Watson is injured "as a result of skydiving, hang gliding, rock or mountain climbing, racing of any kind including as a driver or passenger, motorcycling, use of any off-road or all-terrain vehicle, professional wrestling, boxing, use of firearms, scuba diving, jet skiing, surfing, bungee jumping, basketball, diving, and snow or water skiing."

The team's announcement of Watson's re-injury says that he rolled his ankle in Miami. If he rolled his ankle by doing any of the things he is expressly prohibited from doing and the injury happened because of it, the Browns have an avenue for avoiding $92 million.

Even if the Browns can't prove that Watson was engaging in activities that triggered a void of his guarantees, recent pictures on social media show him without a walking boot. Given the difficulty of rolling an ankle while in a walking boot, it's possible that he wasn't wearing a boot when he was supposed to be wearing a boot. If the team-specified rehab protocols required him to wear a boot, that could be another avenue for voiding the guarantees.
