Well said.

Why not just call it round 1 and even keep the 4 games week 1 then play the other 5 the next week and finish round 1 before round 2.
Because Richmond and Carlton will not be seen as playing the first game of the season which is apparently their God given right.

Yep that's stupid .

they can still be round 1- week 2 first game

not like the title round 1 changes it not being the first game

I lied , i don't like fishing .
I hird Greg Swan CEO GC this morning and he said it's so good that all the attention is to the Northern states for a week . There is no harm in it at all

No one said there was

The northern exposure is good.

Splitting the round and having opening round before round 1 is dumb, either start with all teams or make round 1 2 weeks.

Also if the AFL actually give a **** about footy in NSW for example, why with two NSW teams are there no games in the state at all in rounds 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14 and 22.

This is just bullshit marketing and tv if anything to capture old farts in victoria watching TV with nothing better to do.

I really don't get why it can't just be round 1.

Round 1 is in the Northern states and it just means that 10 teams have a bye that round. Doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.

And yet it is, because the AFL need to placate the Victorians by letting them have the "official" round 1. It's a piss-take.

But your not hearing the sooks here about it , it's all about academies etc , so give these rats nothing and embrace it

But I think the concept is undermined by how it's marketed. "Opening Round", or "Round Zero" according to the fixture - as though it's somehow not a valid round on the fixture.
This is what bugs me. I don't see how they couldn't achieve exactly what they're aiming to achieve by just calling it round 1 and splitting it across 2 weeks (doesn't even really have to be round 1 - probably better for us if it's not given we tend to make finals lol). Wouldn't create controversy with byes either that way.

It's mainly incredibly disruptive to Supercoach though and that just doesn't sit comfortably with me. :embarrassedv1:
