“Clearly no ruck is a big issue for me,” Cornes said.
“I just think you need someone who can compete … Chris Scott loves an athletic ruckman over a lumbering big … which you get from Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs.”

While Blitz tapered from best form, I’d say a more agile player. Hardly “a lumbering big”.
Cornes is calling both Stanley and Blicavs "athletic ruckmen".

The 'lumbering' types are generally guys like Reilly O'Brien, Sean Darcy, Max Gawn.

Thank you for the correction.

My bias towards Cornes was showing. Assumed he was negative.

Speaking of errrr...carrying a bit of padding after off season. There is a thread on Reddit about Harley Reid. The first photo would be a concern, but there are other photos in the thread that are not as bad. Not even sure it isn't fake...but who knows these days! 🤷‍♂️

When is he due? As he’s carrying ‘high’, will be a boy. Either way, daughter or son get him to Geelong ASAP for father/daughter or son

😜

Danger pumping up Mitch Knevitt in his press conference.

Just don't look too closely at who he pumped up last year😬

was he delisted and then not picked up by any other club even though he was apparently the best player not playing AFL?

Not sure about the last bit. But he fits the bill of the first bit and apparently was "ready to explode" last year. Still he's a premiership player and I'll forever love him for that.

Now I know who you're talking about, and I remember the stuff from Dangerfield

If we're honest, the impact that said player made when they were a late in for our round 2 clash and over the next month had Dangerfield looking on the money - just a pity for the player that they couldn't maintain that form

As for the other player, he did win our VFL B&F which is a fair achievement in itself but maybe the limitations some were noticing were also noticed by 17 other clubs

Nothing really means anything until it's proven in action. Words are just words after all.

With that being said, Knevitt would fit that bill more than Parfitt IMO in terms of making that leap, or being "ready to explode".

A project player going into his fourth season, who appears to have most of the tools to impact at AFL level, he just can't seem to use them as of yet.

It does check out, and maybe 2025 is the season it happens? Danger's wording would say the club are at least going to give him a shot to repay that faith at AFL level early on.

Parfitt on the other hand had been a solid servant of the club, but was turning 26, and there was enough evidence to suggest that his limitations were just who he was always going to be at his age and point of his career.

Unsure if this comment should be here or the Bailey Smith thread?

It IS a burning issue, though. . .
What’s happening with his hair?
Definitely longer sides.
Is he joining the headband brigade?

Bailey Smith wearing number 3 at training so confirms the rumour people had that Smith was signing stuff with #3 on it before he got to the Cats (he would have known)

Who do we reckon will get other numbers or have they also been confirmed?

#2? #23? #26? (DOUBT on Tomahawks number being given out for a year)

Jack Martin needs a number plus all of our draftees? Could we see Cillian Burke getting number 2 to keep Irish history going?

He said on his instagram that he was joining #HeadbandSzn so reckon there's a good chance it happens

Track watcher told me that these two went back to back number 1 and 2 this year. In the running (which I think was a shuffle today). Same order with Dempsey shading Knevitte. Indeed they were 1 and 2 the year before (2022) but around the other way.

Good sign in terms of hunger?

I agree. Can’t work out whether that is a good thing or not? Depending on impact on running and I suppose where he plays

I think it is a good thing, it would reflect a lot of extra gym work to get his body right. Which would require quite a bit hunger, when it would have been easy for him to just take a pay cheque

Would have loved to see Smith in the #31
They need to give respect to the great man by putting someone decent in his jumper not random rookie list players.

A little like Judd during his Carlton years after the OP, Cam may have potentially lost that breakaway burst of pace with his lower body injuries in recent times.

Ala Judd, maybe he's gearing up for a more contested, inside extractor/accumulator role in 2025 post injury?

Just spitballing of course, and he could just lean down back to his old self by January and it’s all irrelevant. We'll wait and see.

Bad sign in terms of upcoming talent pushing in
