Track watcher told me that these two went back to back number 1 and 2 this year. In the running (which I think was a shuffle today). Same order with Dempsey shading Knevitte. Indeed they were 1 and 2 the year before (2022) but around the other way.

Good sign in terms of hunger?

I don't think anyone has ever doubted Knevitt's work rate. He's a running machine. Just a question of whether he can get to the level.

Great to see Dempsey back it up after a big year. Looks like the hunger is still there. A couple more years in the gym and he could be absolutely anything. Like best player in the game anything.

Knevitt going on with it after a really strong finish to the year - good to see!

Think it becomes pretty straightforward what our Best 33 players looks like next season:

Blics
SDK
Danger
Holmes
Stengle
Close
B. Smith
J. Henry
Kolo
Bews
Conway
S. Neale
T. Stewart
O. Henry
Knevitt
Bruhn
Bowes
Dempsey
Miers
L. Humphries
J. Cameron
Mannagh
Z. Guthrie
C. Guthrie
T. Atkins
O'Connor
Clohesy
Mullin
Duncan
Stanley
J. Martin
J. Clark
C. O'Sullivan

Everyone else is still developing/just drafted, and will likely only see games if decent amount of injury strikes. It's a pretty decent list management build, if you look at it. Only 2023 (3 players) and 2024 (8 players) are still in development, while the rest have seen senior action a fair bit. O'Sullivan the only likely candidate from 2023, as he's already played an AFL game and he's a high pick. Mannagh and Humphries were readymade, and are now Best 23.

Can't complain too much looking at that list of 33 players - after winning a flag two years ago, nearly winning one this year, and turning over the list in the interim.

We go again as always in 2025!

Have we got an injury list?

Guthrie should have a full preseason (like last year 🙄)
Conway was back in training around finals, pretty sure I've seen Edwards in photos.

MOC was injured late in the season and don't think I've seen him. Have we seen SDK? He had a post season op didn't he?

Dempsey looks the most impressive from that brief video.
He's one of the most amazing athletes we have had at the club for a very long time.

I think we get sidetracked by some of the others and forget how quickly this kid has arrived on the AFL scene from literally nowhere.

Going to be extremely fun watching his trajectory. Will he become a dominant midfielder in a similar fashion to Chad Warner or perhaps continue to sharpen his tools as a winger/forward specialist.

I haven't seen anything official but on one of the news reports last night they did say that we had a clean bill of health other than Conway who was still recovering from his stress fractures. To what extent however they didn't say he may be only doing limited running to try not to reactivate it.

That is the one injury I didn't want to hear was still going 😕

Otherwise positive though

Bailey Smith wearing number 3 at training so confirms the rumour people had that Smith was signing stuff with #3 on it before he got to the Cats (he would have known)

Who do we reckon will get other numbers or have they also been confirmed?

#2? #23? #26? (DOUBT on Tomahawks number being given out for a year)

Jack Martin needs a number plus all of our draftees? Could we see Cillian Burke getting number 2 to keep Irish history going?
Unless something has changed Geelong draftees down get to choose numbers.
Our first draftee gets the first number available and so on.

Not sure anything's changed, but number allocation hasn't worked as "first draftee gets first number" for years

Our draftees from last year:
  • pick 11: Connor O'Sullivan, #14
  • pick 32: Mitch Edwards, #11
  • pick 36: Shaun Mannagh, #7
  • pick 58: George Stevens, #15
  • pick 61: Oliver Wiltshire, #21
  • pick 67: Lawson Humphries, #17
  • rookie pick 7: Emerson Jeka, #43

We also went into last season with no #25 or #27, so if it was about taking the next number then Jeka would have got one of those instead of #43

Or go back to 2022, we traded in Bruhn who took #4 & Ollie Henry #36 as it was the closest free number to his brother

Bailey Smith will likely pick his own number from those available, Jack Martin may also be afforded that opportunity. As for our draftees, if one has an affiliation for a vacant number then they may show a preference for it if that's available to them

Thanks. Thats interesting. I can remember circa 2007 that cooke said we're giving out numbers in order of draft selections.
