This is a good read I reckon, but I kinda wish you didn’t tell everyone

I’ve been all about MPM the whole time I’ve been playing the game, but no more – only absolute must have midpricers for me from here on out

Cactus_ being serious for a minute. Good strategy is fine, but good tactics is just as important.

GnR was the way to go last year with this schedule, but you've still got to nail the premo's that get off to a flier.

IMO it's the midfield premo's that will be crucial. Most will start Sheezel in defence, and Xerri in the rucks, and the forward line picks itself but there are sooooo many good choices in midfield.

I could mount a case for any of the following - Bont, Butters, Sprayshaw, Serong, Neale, Dunkley, Steele, Anderson, Day, Petracca, Oliver, Walsh, Rozee, Daicos, Merrett, LDU, Gulden, Dawson, Young, Red Ed, and there are probably some I've forgotten. 2 or 3 of those are bound to start the season like a rocket.

There are actually quite a few mid-price options I like this year. As always though, it depends on the rookies.

Yes, it will be interesting to see which options in the midfield will have high ownership – and see if there are couple to bet against

My best season was when Rowell in his second year was very highly selected and I’d left him out – he got injured first round from memory and then limped through a few weeks – killed a lot of other people’s seasons

Ginger prick killed my season last year bringing him in when he was running hot then decided to shit the bed every week once I got him in.

Also Maybe Tomorrow

I guess there are a couple of reasons to think G&R might have a bit of an advantage again this year

1/ probably another season with a lot of best 18 rounds which you’d think probably favours guns and rookies

2/ looks like a strong crop of rookies this year so more that might make good money that we want to fit into the side

One factor that counts as G & R is the subs – potential really slows down the rookies maturing – so longer you have to have them on field competing with someone else’s mid pricers

IMO, luck (good and bad), with injuries, subs usage, capts choice, research (which I don't do a lot of, seeing as I'm ineligble to win the big one )has a lot to do with it......I've gone with basically the same strategy (within reason) for the past 6 yrs, and managed to get to 12th overall in 2020, was 3rd coming into last 2 weeks and stuffed up,(Jack Martin I'm looking at you) and this yr finished 24000+, doing basically the same thing.
So good luck for 2025 I hope it goes well for you and you achieve what you're after.....

I don’t think strategy matters at all until trading comes into it. Doesn’t matter how good your starting strategy is, if you don’t pick the right blokes it’s irrelevant.

I nailed my strategy last year, just picked the wrong premos. Like not taking Sheezel…

Strategy, astute trading, starting or jumping on the right cows/premos and just a shit load of luck are all determining factors when you look at it.

Since no one asked, I’ll post my starting 30 from round 1 last year.

I started 7 round 0 players. Flanders, Heeney, Gawn and Grundy all value imo, Whitfield was a throw at the stumps which worked out ok, Touk started hot, and Daicos could’ve been picked up for $90k cheaper after round 5 (still, Daicos was a great VC/C option and I don’t regret starting him).

I managed to arse my way up to 350th overall with a few weeks to go then capitulated and lost interest, finishing 993rd with a trade up my sleeve (missed Heeney as the late out) and this squad:

Unless there’s extreme value in round 0 players then I will give most of them a wide berth.

The only ones I'm nervous skipping (round 0 players) are Naicos & Flanders

I might get FOMO but I hated having to bench them twice last year before others even had a bye

But I did start around 7 round zero players maybe if I had 2 only it wouldn't be so bad

Mills for me depends where he plays. Should get a good look in round 0.
Has Mills ever been a reliable SC pick ?

He’s had runs of good scores, hardly consistent though

Kiddy Coleman is an interesting watch

He averaged 116 over 22 games just 2 years ago.

That was as a MID …. it seems the word is he’ll play back this year … but will await role confirmation

IMO it’s going to take a lot of trust in Mills by owners

When does SC 2025 open roughly?
For SC Gold subscribers the team picker opened just before Christmas last year

Not sure about non-subscribers.
