The funny thing about all this is a lot of the way we play is not new. A great deal of it stems from the way Hawthorn won their premierships, even the first of their recent 4. And I mean you can really trace the kick-mark possession game right back to Mark Williams at Port Adelaide, where Clarkson was an assistant coach for a couple of seasons.

So I really don't think it's all particularly revolutionary, it's just that we were able to execute best when it mattered last year.

A saying we have in finance definitely has application in sports: an average plan followed to the letter is better than a brilliant plan followed poorly or not at all.

I think the decision making is important too. How much do you bite off knowing a turnover could be costly? It sounds a bit counterintuitive, but so much of defending well in the modern game is dependent on how you use the ball when you have it.

You are correct tho, a terrible decision executed brilliantly generally turns out better than a good decision executed very badly. Even tho a good coach is still going to call out the former.

You're not wrong. Need football IQ and the ability to pull it off. Imagine if Cedric Cox had the football IQ to match his kicking ability...

Just about every plan works if you have really good players unless they have a bad off day.

The kick mark game has been around for a long time one way or another.

I think we've worked very hard on our disposal the last 2 or 3 years and seen massive improvements in that respect in players like Answerth ,Starcevich, Wilmot and even Zorko has become deadly after spraying it occasionally over his career, just for starters. Guys like Hipwood who were really iffy on the shorter kicks work within their limitations.

So once we have the ball its very hard to get it back off us. Besides which most of our guys are quite capable of getting it in the first place , Which is the basis of wining footy really.

The Lions have a Bluesky account... But they haven't posted on it yet. There is a nice Lions community growing over there and I would encourage anyone on Twitter to check it out.

Hopefully once the Lions get their media dept sorted they can post there too.
