blue sky looks terrible, just like threads, really don't understand the twitter hate just to go to an app with hardly anyone on it with no content

The paid blue check mark has ruined twitter. You go to a post and then have to scroll down past about a hundred identical blue tick bot replies.

Bluesky is ok at best, too much of an echo chamber at present. It’s much more my side of the ideological spectrum but boringly so.

The Lions have a Bluesky account... But they haven't posted on it yet. There is a nice Lions community growing over there and I would encourage anyone on Twitter to check it out.

Hopefully once the Lions get their media dept sorted they can post there too.

I was listening to an NFL podcast and apparently the NFL has told their teams not to do Bluesky yet because they haven’t agreed to a content deal with the platform.

Not sure what other clubs are doing but wonder if something similar is happening with the AFL?

AFL pre-season state of play: Rd 1 bolters, key position swaps and injury latest

BRISBANE LIONS

Role changes and who’s ‘tearing up the track’:
A selection squeeze is looming for the reigning premiers, with numerous players set to make their return from injury in 2025. Draftee Levi Ashcroft, who had off-season shoulder surgery, will likely slot into a role at half-forward to begin his AFL career, while Sam Marshall’s running ability might have him in the frame for an earlier-than-expected debut. Expect his brother, and fellow young gun, Will Ashcroft to take his game to another level after lighting up last year’s finals series, while their forward setup remains a point of intrigue after Joe Daniher’s retirement. Dayne Zorko looks likely to remain at half-back, despite the impending returns of Keidean Coleman and co.

Injury latest: There’s a bit here. Eric Hipwood remains on a load management program as he recovers from off-season groin surgery - but is expected to feature in this pre-season. Lincoln McCarthy, Darcy Gardiner, Keidean Coleman and Tom Doedee are all back running after their respective ACL injuries, with the club stating the quartet are “tracking strongly”. Coleman and McCarthy even participated in team drills this week. Boom recruit Levi Ashcroft remains in the minimal contact training group after his shoulder op undertaken before he was drafted, and he’s joined there by the likes of Oscar McInerney. The Lions are confident all three will be able to participate in upcoming practice matches. Another expected to feature is Brandon Starcevich despite being on a modified program. Co-captain Lachie Neale has also taken it easy this pre-season due to a foot problem.

Match simulation: vs. Gold Coast Suns vs. Collingwood at People First Stadium, Thursday February 20, 6pm AEDT

Pre-season game (live on Fox Footy and streaming via Kayo): vs. Adelaide Crows at Brighton Homes Arena, Thursday February 27, 8:10pm AEDT

I listen to "The Tennis Podcast" they've gone completely off twitter and now only post on blue sky, they've gone from having close to 100k views per post to basically none, I just don't see the point why cut off your nose to spite your face

I basically just keep on the accounts I follow setting and never go into the comments or post stuff myself.

If you go onto the ‘suggested for you’ feed it’ll just show you garbage that the Musk rat either wants you to see or which will make you angry so that you’ll continue to scroll.

Who’s likely to miss the start of the season? Your club-by-club injury guide
Brisbane Lions
Rebounding defender Keidean Coleman is unlikely to be available for round zero as he builds towards a return from a knee reconstruction after rupturing his ACL in opening round last year. He is among a bunch of knee reconstruction returnees including recruit Tom Doedee, Lincoln McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner, while star midfielder Lachie Neale has been spending time in and out of rehab after battling plantar fasciitis last year. He avoided surgery but has been handled with care. Oscar McInerney is also recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered in last year’s preliminary final win.

thanks for posting - Sounds like a pretty vague update doesn't it

Interesting that Kiddy still won't be fine. Standard return is 10 months. As others noted along the way he seemed to be in a brace for longer. As long as he makes a full recovery the delayed start doesn't bother me - Will took longer as well so it's not necessarily a bad sign.

Not too bothered about the others from knees - Doedee / Linc / Gardiner / Levi should just take their time, none of them have structural value

Oscar will be an interesting one - Fort was great in the granny but got monstered by Briggs in his only other solo game of the year. I have been critical before of Oscar as a second-tier ruckman but he's at worst a very competitive ruck.

It seems as though Sam Day will get first crack at Joe's spot - will be a big watch given he is A) 32yo B) injury-prone and C) will have to play ruck minutes. If he can have a good start to the year it will be especially important given the pre-season lay-offs of Hipwood and Smith.

Seems as though Neale / Clugga will be back just perhaps a bit rusty.

I've said it before but OR is huge for our season. Yes we came back from a sluggish start last time but it was a miracle flag. If we win OR we should be at worst 3-1 and then in to our season proper and our players no longer at a disadvantage in terms of a shorter pre season.

Anyone know if the cats have any injuries beyond the few mentioned in the report linked above? they seem in good condition

Any details or advice on posters to follow?

@brisbanelions.bsky.social
I just did a search for Brisbane Lions in People.
It's good start just to go to the Lions account and follow who ever follows it to start with.

One of the advantages with BlueSky is the ability to search feeds. So if you go searching you will see there is a search function for "feeds". If you type AFL into that you will see there is a significant number of people in that feed. You can then choose to follow that feed and you'll get the posts from everyone in it. Saves you doing a million follows.

For now while Bluesky is young there isn't a huge amount of content and the feed will see you following supporters of other clubs... but actually I don't mind it. It's actually interesting to see how others feel about thier clubs in a non toxic sort of way.

I guess there is a number of things...

1. The feeds thing I mentioned earlier is brilliant - science, footy, politics, gardening, aviation etc - pick your topic and follow the feed. It gets you a diverse mix of people and posts for sure.

2. There is far less toxicity there than Twitter. As each day goes by Twitter becomes more and more of a cesspit. It's as bad as Facebook for know it all loud mouths on any range of topics. Discussion is discouraged and arguments are prioritised.

3. The appearance and operation of Bluesky is sort of early twitter - which makes sense given it's built by some of the original creators of Twitter. There are some interesting differences but.

4. It's open source - so it can never be taken over by yet another Billionaire limiting thought and speech. Not to mention a Nazi lover.

5. At this point in time, it's a pretty good factual resource. That might change but it's not polluted by so much shizen yet.

6. It's not owned by Elon Musk.

7. It's not owned by Elon Musk.

Did I mention Elon Musk?

Yeah I get that to be honest but I guess it depends on who you follow... I try and make a point of following all sides but it got really hard to find sensible, logical and reasonable people on Twitter in the end.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Bluesky is a shadow of X at this stage for users or diversity... but it has to start somewhere. Once sporting organisations etc get on board it will grow and hopefully moderation won't be optional.

I really don’t like not being able to lock my account as well, so I haven’t posted at all.

Listening to Zorko on the radio sounds like they’ve had so many blokes in the rehab group that they’ll only be getting into Match sim over the next two weeks. Which is by far the latest in comp given that Sydney have been doing it for the past two weeks. Lucky the group is experienced and coming off a flag cause I reckon the beginning of the season will be a grind.

Hopefully we just keep playing fit blokes even it means some new faces for the first few rounds.

Just need to try and be no worse than 3 and 2 to start the season.

anyone notice the rnd 3 match at the gabba 12.10pm Saturday against West coast, wtf is that about, also 10am in WA
Round 2 Sunday*. AFL probably thinks that game + Roos/Dees won't be good games so have given them both graveyard slots compared to Freo/Swans on Sunday twilight [AEST]

I don't understand why its starts so early and will be the hottest part of the day, I can't recall a game ever starting at 12

It certainly negates any future argument the AFL may have about being unwilling to schedule a final at the Gabba during the day.
