Everyone got a participation medal don't worryJust not good enough!!
There shouldn't have been a bottom five .... in fact, they all should have been equal first and crossed the line together.
I don't think we've seen anywhere near the best of Motlop...I don't necessarily agree. I think sometimes we focus more on what players can't do vs what they can do.
Motlop is by far our most dangerous small forward. He's powerful, highly skilled and can make something out of nothing. Does he need to put pressure on? 100%. Does he need to be a top tier defensive forward to have a place in our team? No, he doesn't. Other guys can bring that, that don't have Jesse's skill level. As long as we have the right blend of players, we'll be ok. Obviously, we'd rather everyone be good at everything but unfortunately that's not how it works most the time.
There are also several ways you can manage guys with lesser tanks. Play him deeper. Manage his TOG. As long as he is working hard and improving, that's all I'm concerned about. He really only needs to get back to his end of 2023 standard and maintain that, and we're onto a winner.
I run 80km a week, most of it Z2 - Pitto is very slow, but he does have a huge frameZone 2 running is all the rage now. Proven to be a key in improving running times
Witchdoctory ...I run 80km a week, most of it Z2 - Pitto is very slow, but he does have a huge frame
I would estimate his Z2 is 6m + per KM, based on feel
fairly sure the average person would have a rough idea as to the speed a car is travelling, reckon most runners would have an idea at what pace someone was running if they passed them tooWitchdoctory ...
Z2 is just another fitness industry myth that's gained interest through momentum marketing. I'm not having a crack at the poster or Pitto - just the continued BS around high performance.fairly sure the average person would have a rough idea as to the speed a car is travelling, reckon most runners would have an idea at what pace someone was running if they passed them too
big Brad might be running Z2 but his Z2 sucks, okay for a guy that's 110kg though
Burst player without the burst.Motlop is a burst player.
Look at his body shape...he's the opposite of a 2km specialist.
Not worried in the slightest. Jesse needs to stay fit and continue learning / improving how to impact more when ball is forward of centre. 2023 was a massive step forward for him, last year a complete write off (which he is partly to blame for due to poor rehab'ing).
I've said it a hundred times...i just hope our small fwds Mots, Durd, Raz are given more license this year to play on instinct. Too shackled by a defensive system which takes away any attacking flair. Was my greatest frustration in 24'.
I don't disagree that we haven't seen his best, it's just that I wonder IF we'll get to see it, or at least some consistent 'somewhere near his best' would be OK. I get injury, I get a decimated 22, but I don't get that so far his most consistent thing is fade-outs.I don't think we've seen anywhere near the best of Motlop...
I would like to see how he goes when we have a full team in - we haven't had one for a while.
Imagine a full set of forwards that he has around him - the forward line then will be real dangerous:
Charlie, H, Moir, EH (maybe Kemp), Williams - and then we have Motlop roaming around these guys for opportunities
I called this mid last season. Ollie was looking a little bigger, causing him to suffer a bit of second year blues being an elite runner. He couldn’t get to as many contests early. Then it started to improve late in the year. Breakout is definitely on the cards. I’ll be starting him in SC definitely.Break out year (of sorts) coming for Ollie next year imo.
Averaged 14 disposals in first 2 years but will lift that to around 20, maybe more.
75% disposal efficiency already which is ok and will hopefully maintain that with the increasing number of disposals.
Averaged 2.5 tackles in his 1st year, 3.4 in 2nd. Will either maintain that or better.
More mature, stronger, more settled/grounded within the team and more responsibility will see him start to become a far more important cog in the wheel, and will start to be noticed more by the rest of the AFL imo.
Hope I'm right and looking forward to it very much.

Yep. Will be strongly in consideration for my SC team next year.I called this mid last season. Built like a small forward from yesteryear. He's already naturally strong, should be trying to trim down as much of the excess weight off as he can.Burst player without the burst.
Whoever told him to put on that much muscle through his core and legs should never work in club land again.
It’s arbitrary for sure but definitely helps me stay fresh running 80% at Z2 and 20% of my total volume at higher intensitiesZ2 is just another fitness industry myth that's gained interest through momentum marketing. He should not have to rely on a full team around him to produce better football.
I'm expecting a big year from him.
Fair criticism isn't shit canning imo. Our small forwards have been a massive let down for numerous years now, I think it's fair that they're under the microscopeGeez there’s some shit canning of Motlop going on. Disappointing to read
Kinda is if it’s the same thing for months and months and the terms you’ve used towards him are downgrading. You’d be furious if people were saying things about your kid the way you have about him. I just don’t like it.Fair criticism isn't shit canning imo. Our small forwards have been a massive let down for numerous years now, I think it's fair that they're under the microscope
I agree, he gives me Kade Simpson vibes. Similar frame and is very courageous!Break out year (of sorts) coming for Ollie next year imo.

Kade did play midfield for much longer before he went behind the ball.I agree, he gives me Kade Simpson vibes. Similar frame and is very courageous!
Not really zone 2 is the basis of all modern endurance training and has been since Arthur Lydiard coached multiple Kiwis to Olympic gold medals in the 60’s. Just because there is no exact defined line does not mean it does not have relevance.Z2 is just another fitness industry myth that's gained interest through momentum marketing. Burst player without the burst.

Quadzilla genetics. We should ban him from the leg press machine and the squat rack.Hard to go against genetics mate. Have you seen the Motlop's to have played before him? They've all got thick, muscly quads and legs. Look at his Dad.
HelloThe thing we have really missed from the draft this year is a strong big body midfielder.
Newman on the wing works really well for that purpose. When you look at his stats, he is almost elite all around. Transfer that to the midfield and it would be incredible. Otherwise worst that can happen is that he is being top tier in defence again.
