I've heard that Moir has done some freakish stuff at training and just looks over as if to say, I know...

Kid is a freak, always has been

100%. This "work on" crap annoys me

If we didn't pick players because of weaknesses in their game we would never pick a side.
If the things they have to "work on" are things that will be of detriment to the gameplan and the way we want to play, then I understand. Binns was getting 30-40 touches a game, yet an accumulating winger wasn't what the side was missing. We need to move past this "touches are what matters" attitude towards AFL football in 2024, it doesn't work that way anymore

The Kid was killing it in the 2s. Sure there were things he needed to improve, but after Ollies getting 8 possessions in the first 2 games he should have sent back to the 2s top work out how to get involved.

This "he has things he needs to work on" is too often just an excuse not to reward great form in the seconds. The teams shouldn't be like the Australian Cricket team where it is harder to get in than get out. We need to reward excellence in the 2s and react to underperformance in the 1s
Funny thing is;

The kid (Binns) wasn't killing it in the reserves.

This year we played round 0 so had an early start. We had played two senior games and had our bye before the reserves played a game in late March.

But who decides what "underperformance" is? It's not just things that show up on the stat sheet. There are so many aspects of AFL football these days that are related to structure and role, rather than stats

Notes:
  • cinc missing completely (Ramsay was wearing his number). So too S Durdin.
  • fantasia was there and did nothing at all
  • TDK out of the rehab group
  • Acres, MCG, Charlie, SOS, Cotts and little Durds largely rehab group. All ran heaps and strongly. Rehab for conservative reasons only. Okeefe also joined them for the most part. Was running fine. He has put on nice size as i said previously.

Jagga got beaten repeatedly (predictably) by Walshy in one on ones. Walsh was a beast today. Trained fully and awesome. Jagga was otherwise good. I am looking forward to a proper match sim.

Cerra, Walsh, Cripps and George are all FLYING. In great nick and ready to rumble.

Denver Granger Barrass moved really well. Caught my eye with his kicking too. Looks weak one on one though. But def looks good otherwise.

Motlop smashed them (along with Billy Wilson) in shuttle sprints and may have been my pick of the session with his movement through traffic in drills. Saad looked top speed too.

Cowan and Ollie great today.

One to note and watch was Matt Carroll. I need to pay more attention to him in future. Has a strong build, power, pretty clean. He impressed me today but I need to really focus on him - looks to be aiming for a back flank role.

Kemp endurance running looks career best now. Ready for that repeat running third tall forward role.

Moir running looked solid. He looks to be improving.

Ben C kicking was uhm...... His brother showed his leap on a couple of occasions with some nice marks.

HOF 2 years away at best. Lord kicking could do with some more punch. Tends to float them too much. Looked good otherwise.

Nothing much else to report. Happy to take questions.

Have you spotted Duffy yet?
If so, who can he be compared to?

Some of our young players haven't even found consistency in the VFL and have a number of seasoned/better output players in front of them

Wilson is a prime example, where Saad, Doc, Gov, Cowan, Newman, Boyd, Ollie, Cincotta are well ahead of him

Binns, definitely should have played well before he did. Would have flipped him for Ollie in the first half of last season at the very least

I hate in season when players who should be sent back aren’t and ones kicking down the door are ignored…that’s not a high performance culture

Seems to not be an issue for Geelong… their kids don’t get regular game time until multiple years in

Disagree JJ, they reward good form consistently

Ollie Dempsey, originally picked as rookie in twenty twenty one and played games in twenty twenty two

Lawson Humphries, played half a season in his first year

Shaun Mannagh this year again

The real skinny forward that wears the long sleeves, played many games in his first year

And that’s just recently, cbf going back further

Thanks Windows. Did you happen to notice if Liam McMahon was there? And if so, how did he go?

We should ask the AFL for special dispensation so that we can sub the entire side at halftime so that everyone gets a run.

Really? I’ve read heaps of reasons why 🤷

Most people on here post reasons why and their thoughts
