Reading talk about pick playing round when I'm not convinced Nicks will even pick Curtin.

We played Maxy, Rachelle and even McAsey all round

I would even suggest Curtin would have played round if he didn’t get injured

Right so Curtin was more physically developed than Fyfe and more ready to play AFL

C'mon. Thats a pretty idiotic thing to suggest - even for you.

The examples you have compared him to are ridiculous - they are all genuine midfielders / smaller players - Fyfe/Bont/McLeod/Cripps - These players are all around or below 191cm when drafted.

Curtin is 197cm and 95 kilo. He has the body of a KPP player who spent the majority of his junior career playing that position.

His best comparison needs to be a bigger Pavlich than Embley or any of the other genuine midfielders you have listed.

Curtin dominating and being front and center in 2025 should not be an expectation at all!

Matthew Pavlich was averaging 18 touches a game in his 3rd season and was named All Australian that year. He was a gun very early in his career.

That's exactly the sort of trajectory I'm suggesting for a versatile supposedly elite player

False

He grew 10cms from 16-17 (and presumably kept growing) and moved from midfield to defense after that.

Well the first part is correct. He 197cm and has the body of a KPP.

You are correct - he played local footy as a midfielder - but his serious junior footy the last 2 years was played as a swingman.

Expectations of Pavlich career trajectory are mighty lofty. Who knows - he might have the talent to get there in year 3, but the expectation for a 197cm player should be for him to start dominating in year 4 or 5 - possibly 6.

Still waiting to see what you're seeing.
Prior to his knee injury, some of his movement at pre season training was outstanding.

One half volley, spin and then side step in particular had Sloane going ape seeing it.

He’s not the most fluent runner but ball in hand he’s silk ala Tex. if his knee is feeling better, be prepared to see some lovely lateral moment next year.

Saw what appeared to be laird, Milera, strachan and welsh working with one of our fitness guys at west lakes today.

Laird looked in good condition, Milera still working his way towards it. Welsh was doing his running with strachan.
Great news .

Would like to know of any ruck training observations and your thoughts when it comes about mate.
Just another thanks for last years pre season and love this posting again, cheers.

No worries.

Rucks are typically hard to judge before Christmas as there’s usually not a whole lot of match simulation.

I’ll be keen to see how strachan goes with his running at least. He’s typically at the back end and he was exposed in his afl games this year.

At his age it’s hard to imagine big improvement but he needs to lift in that regard no doubt.

Anyway here's another example. Patrick Cripps was a 190cm (grew to 195cm) 90kg kid when he was drafted, and in his second year was averaging 24 disposals and 7 clearances a game

I guess if we believe he's a key forward then we can expect his development to be a lot slower. But I'm not sure many people think he is.

If he's actually an elite midfielder like we hope, then he should be showing that quite quickly and needs to be prioritized in that role
Does anyone genuinely think he's targeted to be an elite midfielder?

He's barely played that role.

I think an attacking half back or half forward seems most likely

He's targeted to play roles which we can and should expect immediate impact from within the first 2-3 seasons and we need to prioritise his development at AFL level so that happens.

Whether that's midfield, half back, wing, half forward. We should expect impact from a supposedly elite player in those roles shortly. Not 4-5 years.
