There's always talk of full premo before the byes. I'm not sure it's possible.
Doubt that anyone can get a full premo side before the byes, but it's possible to have no rookies on the ground.

My current team has Peatling, Cumming, Maric and Lynch who, I'm hoping, can hold their spots and be upgraded during the byes to premos that have already had theirs. There's 5 rookies on field and a premo at Flex, I'll only have to upgrade 4 of those rookies to have (effectively) none on the ground. Providing I don't go too heavy with players in each of the byes ie: maximum of 4 missing then the best 18 scores shouldn't include a rookie score.

Think we need to stop talking the word Premo!!

Last seasons premo’s are this seasons never again’s.

You never know what a coach will do, change of role or position.
Injuries to players.
New club, new chances.
New club, less chances.

A young guy takes the next step in career trajectory and improves by 30SC points or more, meaning less points for last seasons premo’s to have allocated to them.

I like to think of my players as either cash/points improvers or possible keepers.

This is especially treated as such when taking on MPM in the FWD line or MIDS really anywhere you think there is value.

Why not just start the 3rd ruck with a top priced rookie on the ground, using Flex to cover the worst rookie/MP/Premo score?
Because a 3rd ruck is a lot of cash better used elsewhere.

Say you even cheap out and got Flynn.
Thats $150k spent at start of season for a player not guaranteed to play or score higher than any of the top tier rookies.

People do realise that you can sub between the flex and another position.

Problem is Rucks can only be subbed with rucks, fwds with fwds..

This is why DPP players are my targets for flex spot before the midseason byes when I can then use/sub a R/F to move around to flex then into FWD line and put the ruck with a bye on the bench.

There are many tricks like trade in then reverse trades to change team structure and having DPP players help out heaps with the old switcharoo’s.

Version 5696

Trying a more risky team with less players above $600k (only 3 in this side)..

Thinking about undervalued players that could turn into keepers or players that could easier be turned into $600k plus players with only 2 trades.

Only 6 rookies starting onfield plus Flex rookie.

Yes I do realise to many Bombers players with a round 4 bye.
Though I have less guys over $550k with other early byes than all my other teams made so far.
Will just suck it up in round 4 or make some sideways trades.

I know you probably want Bombers players but doing Martin > Dale nets you 30k and you don’t have to worry about that round 4 bye anymore

i dont think ive ever got to full premo by the end of the season

About 3 years I managed to finish the season with 24 premos but I had a lot of luck that year. No injuries and started a few midpricers that ended up keepers.

Very good points here, well explained.

And will be looking at using the byes to upgrade up to premiums.

This might be more of a MPM team kind of plan or hybrid team.

I have had draft teams with only 6-7 onfield rookies. I could easily get that down to 4-5.

5 upgrades by round 12 should be easily done.
It's all semantics what you call them, keeper/premium...

Point is, no one is having a complete team before the byes

For a slightly different view to my awesome co Eagles supporter Here2tellyouwhy.

I've had Maric in and out of the side. Yes, they'll be using him as one of the outlets but I don't think he'll be the prime distributor like God of thunder thighs Hurn was.

He's a very good kick but he's not Hurn, Jetta, Houston , Sicily level. Nowhere near it.
In-fact, I thing Gov is the best kick in the side and especially down back.

He'll make money but I expect more 70's than 90's.

Also, for those that have Flynn, it's still early but he got hurt at training yesterday again.
He's injury prone and role not guaranteed....I'm a big risk taker and even I'm not starting him in Flex even though the side looks better when I do it.
Hes a better kick then you expect I reckon.
CHB along side Gov is his role to lose. Whether he gets kick ins, well Gov is often top of B50 so if hes closest he seagulling those point up like the Great chip scab Hurn once did in my team.

For a 2 year player and still rookie prices, with new coach and possible Seagull role. Im in.

No denying he's value mate, for sure. ..He's currently back in my side too.

I just think he'll be rotated through the chip scab role not locked into it.
Game to game I suspect he'll rotate with Gov and maybe even someone like Liam Ryan who was more speed and I think is a better field kick, he's certainly creative and the closest thing we've got to Jetta skills wise.

The other issue with Maric is that he's versatile. Great for playing most games but not so good for SC scoring consistency, game to game as his role could possibly change dependant upon the situation.

based on the news just out, dont think liam ryan will be starting the season

(video of him smacking on in a fight just surfaced)

I did have a good look at Dale.
His role could increase quite a bit with some of the Doggie’s list changes.

Picking Martin was more based off the way his high and low scores were VS other players in say a $60k bracket.
30k up or down.

Also if the Merret rumours of him spending time at half back and Martin training in the midfield group.
I think martin may go up a fair way in his scores and averages.

I am more concerned over Parish.
Think he is a risky pick along with Oliver to not be worth starting with.

Going a different approach with this team.
Loading up in Defence and the Forward line with just Bont as the Premo in the Midfield with Parish & Oliver.
By Round 6 players like Sheezle,Mills,Rankine & Macrae will all get DPP so have plenty of flexibility on all 3 lines Def/Mid/Fwd.
