I think it's a fair path to take, makes sense, but paying so much on the bench is really hurtful to the team. You basically end up with a premo less. I reckon I'll stick with mostly cheapies on the bench. Happy to take 1 or 2 expensive players on the bench if they're required, but no more.
You can also end up with an extra premo at the end of year or the ‘A’ graders compared to those who are buying out of the bargain bin. Happens every year as everyone is so eager to get to full premo before everyone else that they cut corners which bites them in the butt at seasons end.

Last year I shopped in the bargain bin, ended up with trades left and a stacked bench, which allowed me to avoid donuts late in the year and claw my way back after a terrible start to the season (my starting side was garbage). Others ran out of trades early because they spent all their money and trades getting the top-tier and very expensive players. It's SC, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

I've never had a problem with cash gen starting with mostly cheap rookies, and that's coming from a bloke who is very cynical when it comes to rookie options and their cash gen potential.

Back in the day if you went mostly GnR and traded conservatively, you were almost guaranteed to do well. Now with a million trades and boosts, SC strategy is wide open, lots of different things work.

A lot of WB supporters have Davidson in R1. A VFL young gun, may play HF or even wing at times they think.

$113k FWD rookie watch.
A lot of people have him in and have Vandermeer out. But Vandermeer somehow seems to play every game when fit. Which is odd cos he can’t kick goals, get the footy or tackle. But our coaches seem to love him.

Hopefully SD gets in over him.

That was the point of my post, lots of things can work, there is genuinely a counter to most posts on this board 👍

Essendon track watch: Elijah Tsatas dominates match sim to kick off new year

A fringe Essendon midfielder has torn match play to shreds during a Saturday morning session where several of Brad Scott’s tweaks for 2025 were revealed.

Young onballer Elijah Tsatas laid down a marker in his push to break into Essendon’s midfield by dominating match simulation to start the new year.
He was only playing Essendon though.

Connor Stone (GWS) FWD - $119K

HARRY Perryman's move to Collingwood has left a spot up for grabs in the Greater Western Sydney line-up and Conor Stone is determined to snap it up.

After an impressive season in the VFL, Stone is bent on elevating himself from fringe player to Giants standout.

The 22-year-old has only played 13 games since being drafted with pick No.15 in 2020, largely hampered by a wretched run of soft issue injuries.

A fit-again Stone impressed in the VFL last season and was rewarded as the club's best-and-fairest for the second-tier competition.

Still, Stone admits some dissatisfaction with the personal accolade.

"It probably means I've played too many VFL games," Stone told AAP.

"As humbling as it was, I'd rather be playing in the AFL."

Talk of James Leake too, and Fonti all fighting for the HB role. Probs a few others. PS watch for sure.

Seems likely we get at least one rookie from GWS. Hopefully they stay in long enough to make some cash.
Stone knocked back offer from Essendon last trade period. Something tells me GWS have promised him game time down back

Yep that article today got me thinking too. Hopefully he's been promised a run in the team, means he can survive a poor game.

Apparently Leake rated very highly internally too.

Gothard could be a smoky aswell.

Leake was training/playing as a midfielder all last year but definitely has the range to play half back with a bit of handy extra height.
I reckon we will see Stone lace them up round 0.

With McMullin and Thomas suspended for the first 2 games I reckon this is highly likely.

Razor might teach Kern some new moves :moustache:
