A good 2025 is what we need for him to stay
Hopefully that’s not the case. Surely he and his management can see what the club is building.

It will be a cop out leaving if we have a sub par year. Things like injuries and luck play a huge part.

Stay and win the 2nd flag and he will be an immortal. It should be a huge carrot for all our players and possible trade targets.

If you win a flag anywhere you're an immortal. The Adelaide teams both have little droughts of their own. Hopefully Nasiah loves the vibe and can see what we're building like you say, you'd think we'd be putting a ton of cash in front of him too so it's a little worrying that he hasn't signed on yet.

It’s easy to find players to target, not always easy to achieve that target.
Agreed!
But!!

SA players - just two teams there, and ten here.

Become stars here, easy targets to be lured home

Like the tide at Port Philip heads ! In and out!

And

North and St Kilda are not star magnets!

But

We’ve got something going on now!

NAS knows it

Josh Battle be damned

Hawthorn family barbecue

Make wifey friends

Sod that

Not everyone wants to go home.
Shit if i got a job with NASA, i wouldn't want to go and work at Moorabbin Airport, just because its "home". ( StKilda/Port...i think that's a fair analogy, could go Disney Studio's vs Channel 10 Nunawadding. )
We wouldn't have needed to do a "Voice" referendum if everyone went home, would have been just the indigenous here.

How is the Saints midfield going to look in 2025? You’d imagine Macrae slots right in there after his move from the Bulldogs but there might be some other players Ross the boss flicks in there. Phillipou is tearing up the track in pre-season so maybe he is one for more time in the engine room while could draftee Tobie Travaglia also get some time there in his debut season? Down back it looks like Arie Schoenmaker is set to get the first crack to replace Josh Battle as the third tall defender.
-----------------
A chart based on last years supercoach averages that i call bullshit on. ( yes its their supercoach average, but it doesn't reflect how they played.
Marshall and Caminiti up 20, Owens up 10,
Wood down 10, Higgins down 15, Hill down 22 or so.

------------

There’s few players on the Saints list with as much promise as Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and with Port Adelaide very keen on the smooth South Australian, a good 2025 campaign could see him in line for a very big payday. After moving from the wing to halfback, Wanganeen-Milera has shone with his ability to hit targets from defence, and set-up attacks from back there. The Power still could have a Dan Houston-shaped hole in its defence and the better Wanganeen-Milera plays in 2025, the bigger his contract could be whether that is at the Saints or at another club.

LAST YEAR IN CONTRACT
Angus Hastie, Angus McLennan, Arie Schoenmaker, Dougal Howard, Hugo Garcia, Hunter Clark, Isaac Keeler, Jimmy Webster, Liam O’Connell, Liam Stocker, Marcus Windhager, Mitchito Owens, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Ryan Byrnes, Zaine Cordy, Zak Jones

Ross the boss still has a contract until 2026 and has built up his influence and power off the field significantly at the Saints. But after St Kilda went backwards in 2024, fans will be hoping to see some improvement in 2025. A tough start in 2025 makes this difficult and Lyon could be reaching into his bag of tricks to make sure the pressure doesn’t ramp on him in his second stint at the Saints.

BURNING QUESTION
Can the Saints land a big fish to boost their midfield? St Kilda has a big war chest to use in free agency and the Saints want every rival player and their agents to know this. Despite two high draft picks the Saints midfield is arguably still lacking so you’d expect premier on-ballers such as Luke Davies-Uniacke to be right at the top of St Kilda target list. Yes, we will find out whether the Saints’ strategy will pay off at the end of the 2025 campaign, but as we know the work in executing this plan takes place all year.

Who would have thought young Master Phillipou would be pumped up again. ??

Pendlebury/Bontempelli again??

The devil in me asks, “No idea, but what do you suppose will turn him into a star after two seasons as a 13 possession-a-game player?”

So far, our excuses are,

He’s only 18!
He’s only 19!
He’s only 20?

Wouldn’t that mean more seconds games?

I know, there was a really sharp spike in impact after coming back from the twos.

Fingers crossed.

Natural progression.
His best in 2024 was better than his best in 2023 was better than his best in 2022.
But if you are chasing disposals, i guess it depends if they keep him in the midfield or not.

The inside word

A medium-sized forward who is brilliant on his preferred left foot and particularly damaging in and around the goals. Is a versatile player who can also play through the midfield and off half-back where his awareness and vision can prove pivotal. Apart from his elite kicking, XXXX combines a strong overhead mark with an ability at ground level to make life difficult for opponents. Set to become another member of the large XXX AFL alumni, Is expected to go top five in this year's draft.

I just wonder, a lot was expected of him.

The people doing the drafting don't go by the media.
And if anyone has high expectations of Phillipou, its Phillipou.

Sorry
I was just having a bit of fun.
That media bit is from 2013
..and it is for Jack Billings.

But it just had some echo of Pou there.

Limited value..
