I wouldn't mind us looking at a key back depth option in Darcy Gardiner from the lions? He's a ufa at years end, he will be 30 for the start of next year so still a couple of decent years left and would cost too bugger all to bring him over, originally from Victoria and can hold down a key spot or at least provide good depth not too many other key backs standing out to me in the free agency list.

Actually don't mind that considering the lack of KPD FAs!

Zach Merrett falls into the same category as Patrick Cripps - gun players who are good blokes that both deserve so much better than the clubs (and the situations at those clubs) they find themselves in.

I really feel for Zach. Brilliant player, playing his guts out for a dump of a club with a bunch of teammates that look like they don't give two sh1ts.

36 disposals and 4 goals in a side that was smashed in every part of the ground and every facet of the game. What more can he do?

Unless he makes some drastic last minute trade request and the Bombers let him go, his whole career will pass by without ever experiencing and success in September.

So according to Cal he’s currently sitting around pick 20 in the rankings, and we have pick 28. It sounds very much like we’ll easily have what we need to get him unless he rockets in to top 10, but even then we wouldn’t need to do anything near as drastic as trading Maynard to acquire him.

God I hate this sort of click bait nonsense.
His comment has taken into consideration that pick 28 will get pushed out after we win the premiership.

Whilst initially against the idea, I’m coming around to the idea of Oscar Allen as a FA. On the proviso his durability issues means he comes at a reasonable price.

Turned 26 a week ago. Can kick 50+ a season. Checkers is banged up and may not hold out much longer…

Could be a key part of the ongoing re-gen to ensure we’re always competing for flags.

Apparently he desperately wants to play for a team in the window and WC are a long way off.

Pick up Allen, Aleer and Richards/Rowell in the offseason and the cliff become a giant ramp to the moon.

Get it done Pies.

Yes, I’m aware someone on the radio once said he has the knee of a 40 year old.

Aware there are durability issues: full year out with a lisfranc and half a year out with a knee.

Aside from those two examples he plays 20+ a year.

There’s risk there but it’s why you’d get him cheaper and on a shorter contract than you otherwise would.

Gotta roll the dice to defy gravity.

Looking likely those two will stay at their clubs.
I'm not convinced Allen does enough as a forward we would require, but we'll see.

Let’s wait and see. The whispers around who’s staying and who’s going seem to change direction week to week, I’m convinced it’s mostly guesswork.

In any case, the midfielder names were more illustrative than literal. We just need to land a high-level mid in the 22-26 age range to help keep us thereabouts as we transition out some champions in the coming years.

We’d be lucky to get one let alone 3

The MSD we should be looking for a full back/ third tall (replace Howe) presuming McInness and Johnson will potentially be placed on it.
Two players I'd be looking at are Ethan Phillips and Kaine Baldwin but I imagine there will be quite a few others.

McInness might end more as a Maynard type replacement (presuming he leaves) and I think Cochrane can play multiple positions.

Cal saying Swans will te sign Warner on about $2.8 over 2 years

On top of massive contracts for Gulden etc

I think people underestimate how much the salary cap has increased

Those hyperventilating over paying McStay $650k are looking a little silly now

Last I heard those in the know seem to say that most contracts seem to naturally increase every year as the salary cap goes up, which would be pretty logical.

No way McStay agreed to 600k in year 1 and to still be on 600k in year 5... no one would ever agree to that.

Typical clickbait media.

Of course he is staying, of course there’s plenty to work through still. It’s all just to get Maynard what he wants from the club.

I think the club is juggling a fair bit with contract extensions ATM and I don’t expect this to get done until after Cameron, Bobby etc. Trust the media to spin that like he is leaving though!
