The clash jumper would be pink as the top two thirds to represent pigs, and grey along the bottom to represent the trough. If we're going down that road they might as well introduce a pink clash jumper featuring a giant utensil...atoo. They cheat in parliament, why not havefive portfoliostwo mascots.
But Canberra can justify using it despite being American and all that, considering the Lakers name was reflective of Minnesota's nature, before they relocated to LA.I get where you're coming from, I just think there are exceptions for those that would suit that, Canberra being one, Joondalup Falcons being another (though I'd prefer ACT over WA3 for team 20). The SW Pelican proposal was just them taking the piss.
The problem I have with the Laker name is it's too American, reminds me of the LA Lakers.
True.
And I get it, too, I always liked the idea of NT and NQ having teams, they feel like the last remaining major gaps on the map.
But why not have both which = 21 teams, so if you have 21 you need 22 and ACT would be the other glaring omission to me.
Given the population and finances, ACT would make more sense first before going to the top end.
That's just it, though, people thought Tasmania were being neglected by the AFL and I think they feel the same way about the NT, little do they know that ACT has had five rejected bids. It would've made sense for Tasmania to have a state team back in the 90s if the restructuring of the VFL and national expansion had just been ever so slightly different, but NT as far as I know never put their hand up until 2018. They weren't a shot back when the AFL was just starting out, then let alone now.ACT makes way more sense than NT. If people thought Tassie was a pipedream, they haven't heard the NT's case yet lol
If they want to catch the entire Southern NSW instead of just ACT (as everyone suggests for an Canberra expansion), then a parliament of owl is only reflective of ACT.The AFL currently has five birds and five mammals. The Tasmanian Devil will be the sixth mammal.
A sixth bird team is fine. And an owl, kookaburra, galah, cockatoo, or any of the other bird names that are being floated, are pretty unique in the AFL landscape.
I'd love more canines and marsupials tbh. Wolves (even though we don't have any), Foxes, Dingoes, Platypi, Echidna etcThe AFL currently has five birds and five mammals. The Tasmanian Devil will be the sixth mammal.

Yeah, even playing at Wagga Wagga is a bit of a stretch for a Canberra team. It would need to play in Canberra, just as GWS should be playing all home games in western Sydney. Its not as though an oval to suit a 10-12k crowd can't be found somewhere else in Sydney for use during the Easter Show.I doubt a Canberra side would capture Southern NSW. Maybe if you call them the Canberra-Riverina Rangers but I can't see the Riverina people getting behind a Canberra team. It'd be better for a Vic side to just play a couple games there with Canberra as the away team. Canberra is better off playing all of its home games at Manuka.
Darwin Dingoes sounds cool, just not as a 20th team.
3 games in Blacktown, upgrade if needed; AFL could do it.Yeah, even playing at Wagga Wagga is a bit of a stretch for a Canberra team. Why not try to make all three happen by 2050 then.As much it's unrealistic, the big reason why lot of football fans and personnels back NT as the 20th team, is prolly because of Indigenous Australians.
Since those in the latter works with them a lot, they see and believe a team in NT will help lot of troubled people and bring them hope, motivation and opportunities, and a platform would improve communities too. 3rd WA and ACT doesn't really have that because they're too rich to help.
See that the footy people backs NT, the TV media backs 3rd Perth/WA and Bigfooty backs ACT.
Maybe the Voice Referendum would've won if an NT team was attached to it.As much it's unrealistic, the big reason why lot of football fans and personnels back NT as the 20th team, is prolly because of Indigenous Australians.

Canberra Pear maybe you could try contacting Andrew Dillon (or his rep). Could take months for him to see it, though. If anyone can pitch ACT, it's you, I wouldn't do it justice. A message from AFL CEO, Andrew Dillon - AFL NSW / ACT.

18 teams is already too many. Many people are never going to see a premiership in their lifetimes
That's pretty cool that they gave that out.
I assume it'll just go to his team, but I'll definitely write something up.
Thanks Coolangatta
Northern territorys entire ability to bid for a team will be based on fairness and history and nothing else and will have no feasible business case
canberras population is expected to exceed 500k in a few years, NTs meanwhile will grow to 300k in the same time, Canberra is expected to hit 800k by 2060.
the second largest town in the NT is bloody alice springs, is 15 hours away from darwin and only has a population of 28k, meanwhile hobart to launceston is 2 and people are already questioning if footy fans will make that trip
any discussion of putting a team in darwin should be laughed out the door as unviable.
Well that's nice to hear. Good to see teams like Freo will never win a flag.18 teams is already too many. Many people are never going to see a premiership in their lifetimes
That's exactly what I think. If we keep bringing new teams in, some existing ones should merge/relocate. That's just my opinion obviously. I think 20 teams is definitely too many.At one point people were complaining that 10 Victorian sides is too many. LoL
