Nearly his best game for the year. Most importantly he came up clutch in the moments that counted. The long captains goal before half time to help steady the ship was crucial

That goal was great. He had a couple blokes in a good position to receive a handball but he took it upon himself to kick the goal and delivered.

Was excellent today, our best I thought.
26 disposals with 12 contested going at 85%, 7 clearances, 8 inside 50's, 5 tackles and 2 goals is a complete midfielders game.
In the context of the rest of the team on Saturday, this was incredibly important.

Was one of our only clean ball users we had with the game on the line on Saturday.

Born leader.

Wish we took Atley instead

In all seriousness, couldn't expect much more from him. Has been a little up and down, but a true leader of men. Legend.

Just the comment was a bit childish. Most people were just saying he'd had an ok year but then he plays a very good game on the weekend and you're acting like it validates your comments from last week. How anyone could have a problem with people calling his year solid prior to Saturday is just odd to me.

you protest against what you think is a childish post with a retort that comprises a single rolleye emoticon? Ok then...

You can think it's childish if you want, but given I don't often use too many emoticons myself one would have hoped the little winkie face might give the game away that it's not an entirely serious post.

In any case though, why the heck shouldn't I make such a comment? I mean, given that not 4 days ago I had a spirited debate with some people about Heppell, and I made the specific point that IMO he's actually had a pretty good season and that the next time he played a good game the goldfish memories would kick in and he'd be a star again - and that's precisely what happened. So why shouldn't I make such a post?

In any case, it's ironic in the extreme that you accuse me of "having a problem" with other people's opinion (even though in fact all I ever did was comment on how high our expectations are for the guy if we think what he's served up is just "solid"), by getting all sandy in the panties about me having opinion.

It's an internet discussion board mate, people are allowed to have different opinions

I guess my issue was the fact that you had a crack at people who I think were characterising his season as 'solid, decent, ok' etc which was probably unfair in my opinion. Very few people were saying he was poor or getting pissed off with his performance or efforts. But as predicted he had a good game and you came in to say what you said.

Anyway, it's not a big deal but I don't think it was necessary to initially have a crack at those who thought he was just getting the job done (and reasonably well) prior to this week.

Also, you're 100% right that my single emoji response was childish. Then again, I'm a bit of a child ;)

but I didn't have a crack. All I said was that we must have very high expectations of the guy if we think that's just solid. Anyone who has an issue with that is being way too defensive.

Anyone else feel this blokes underrated?

Strolled back in and just picked up where he left off in 2015.

Edit: Just actually read part of this thread, yep underrated.

hmm, i don't think he's been as good at '15. gets bullied around the ball at times, and makes some shocking disposal errors.

Yeah, he's had more disposal errors this year than he had in his career up until suspension. Hoping a year back in the game + pre season coming up and he'll be his old silly self for 2018!!

This is a great point actually. I've been staggered by the overwhelming majority of this board saying lately that Hurley has barely had a bad game all year, when at the start of the season a number of people were paying him out for starting off out of form.

Heppell's had a very reasonable year. My only complaint would be that his kicking has let him down at times, but it just seems like a temporary by-product of a year out.

Hurley took a month to fire up, he'd still be leading the b&f though. Also his last 2 weeks have been average. He may well end up all aus with a strong last month, credit to just how good he is!!
