Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

i may be wrong, but after seeing the short video of him playing, he's got the likes of pendlebury. Hopefully he becomes just as good, if not, better.

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

Initially I wasn't happy with the decision to overlook Atley or Prestia but after having some time to let it sink in I'm pretty happy with the decision.

He has elite kicking skills which is just what we need, as long as we play him as a midfielder I'll have no objections.

On a side note it seems we can't stay away from H's, we've now got another one to add to the list :D

We need to improve our kicking skills, Heppell provides that need straight away, really satisfied with this selection.

Can't wait to see him on the field in the red and black. :D

Stop the presses:eek:

Haha!

---

Everyone at the club is absolutely astonished that Heppell fell this far, and they're over the moon.

Can't complain about that!

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

If he's half as good as Hodge, as they anticipate, we're in for something special with this kid.

Will be still keeping my eye on Atley though as he was very highly rated also.

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

After a bit more thinking, am relatively happy with Dyson.

Obviously his foot skills will be a weapong, with him, Hurley and for the short term Fletcher, two kick goals from full back could be on the cards :D

But in all seriousness, Heppell to replace Dempsey across half back and Dempsey to a wing/half forward where his defensive deficiencies will not be exploited (as much).

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

After watching all vision i can find I still dont understand the Hodge comparions. Really poor one other than the fact they can both play in defence as well as up the ground. The kicking actions are nothing alike, Hodge has a tremendous low trajectory and piercing kick and Heppel seems to be more measured and well weighted. Heppel also seems to be a link player which is not something id call Hodge.

Before i get called a negative nancy i'd liken his playing style closer to Goddard than any others i can think of.

TBH IDGAF which player Heppell gets compared with - if he can become a gun in his own right then that's all that matters.

Are you satisfied with this selection?

I think he was best available so in that regard cant complain. Im not overly sold on how good some believe he is because i dont see many exceptional qualities to make him stand out from the pack, maybe the reason for the slide.

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

For those that have BomberTV, I was just watching this clip:

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/bombert...tion=play&ch=4

Adrian Dodoro says, and I quote:
"We were looking for a tough inside onballer and outside midfielder, and that's exactly what he'll be; he'll be developed as a midfielder."

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

Better than the best deal in town.

But seriously, it's worth it. You can find footage of highlights of every game, training sessions, interviews, press conferences etc.

Stuff you wouldn't find elsewhere.

Had it last year it's great, at the moment I am surviving on Peanut Butter on Crumpets, internet and tap water. Have been pumping all my money into helping my Mum sell her house. Still very tempting and could be my entertainment for the weekend.

Re: National Draft Selection #8 - Dyson Heppell

Haha! I will purchase a membership just before the season starts, Essendon play on my Birthday for the 3rd season in a row in Melbourne, and I wish to be able to flash some membership card and have them let me through with full knowledge that I just payed $200 for access to one game of football for the year :D
Will be my first membership year, I feel bad that I have never been a member but I have never had the spare cash!
