No, but Heppell's been better than Jobe all year, prior to the injury.
Debatable, but what's undeniable is that he has not been in the same realm of Watson's previous 2 years.
I'm looking forward to the damage they can do if both in full flight next year.

No, I disagree with that. Heppell's first 10 weeks were good without being spectacular. Since then he's been simply phenomenal.

Yeah I agree, but Jobe wasn't exactly amazing, either.

Don't get me wrong, he was good. But like you said, his 9.5/10 football was in 2012, and he's probably been about an 8/10 since returning from the shoulder injury in 2013 (IMO).

I'd say Hepp's been an 8/10 since Jobe went out with that 2013 injury (remember that he went up a notch during Jobe's absence then as well), and then a 9/10 since Jobe did his flexor in 2014.

Yeah, that's fair.

Haven't read the forum yet and didn't listen to the commentary.

Best on ground? Only missed targets with 65% of kicks.

Bruno - When Hurley was getting BOG despite his opponent kicking 4 goals, and in the last two weeks his opponents have been invisible, but yet Hurley struggles to get votes.

In that game Hurley kicked one from defence. Had three kicked on him and pretty much set up the game from defence.

Heppell would have to be the least dangerous "best player" of any club. If I was an opposition coach I'd let him get all the ball he wants.

Hurley had four kicked on him - Bit like Baguley from last night - At very best he broke even with Thomas - But is getting votes - I have no idea why opposition coaches tag Heppell - Must be something wrong with them.

Yeah he was woeful last night wasn't he? 21 effective disposals, 7 clearances, 6 inside 50s and 5 rebound 50s, not sure why he is picked in the team to be honest

It is easy to bag someone for there ED% but when you are getting the ball as much as Dyson does the chances are you wont go at a high %, he is still having more effective disposals than just about everyone else and a really good balance of contested and uncontested possessions. He wins clearances as well as having a high number of inside 50s and rebound 50s, how anyone can say his possessions are meaningless and he isn't damaging is beyond me, he is our best player by an absolute mile and if he isn't already he will be one of the very best in the league within 12 months.

probably why you're not a coach then. What a stupid thing to say.

We get it, you don't like Heppell. The rest of the football world just isn't bright enough to see what you see

I dont dislike him. I think his impact on games is overrated.

I like some others didn't get the hype with Cotchin a couple of years ago. It annoyed me that his performance seemed to be rated based on his status as future star and media darling.

If I was an opposition supporter Id think the same of Heppell. Id like for him to become the player first.

A player that kicks the ball the way he does is virtually incapable of playing footy that matches the reputation.

It is ridiculous to suggest he has gone past Watson or Goddard.

Go to a game and focus on Heppell. He is absolutely everywhere and doesn't stop running. His so-called kicking deficiency is overstated - you wouldn't say Jobe is the best of kicks but for a while he was the clear second best player in the competition (and arguably still is when fit/in form).

That said, here are things I'd like to see Heppell work on in the off-season:

- Defensive running
- Disposal in contested situations/under pressure
- Shots at goal (both on the run and during a set shot)
- Making tackles stick
- Being faster with his first 2-3 steps from a contest (not sure if this is something he could improve)

Only knock on his game is his kicking penetration and that he really just isn't quick. Right now, he struggles to kick 45m with his set shots which isn't good enough for an AFL player.

Having said that, still elite.

Far out. The guy who played his guts out with a broken hand is getting bagged. He was our best player I thought.

No, kicking is not his strong suit. It would be nice if he could improve it, and be more confident with a shot outside 40m.

His job is to win the hard ball, and clear it to players who can kick. Which he does very well.

The problem was, half the guys in our team who are good kicks, had shockers

And you want to bag Heppell. Pfft.

Heppell is a far more damaging player than Cotchin - You are comparing apples and oranges - Actually Power gave Cornes an easy week by tagging Cotchin - Cornes has more important roles in upcoming weeks.

Good post - Think the last point is the one that can lift his game to another level.

I've seen him kick goals outside of the 50.
