Player Watch #21: Noah Balta - Pleaded Guilty To Be Sentenced April 22nd

Most people if being honest have gotten themselves in worst positions.
We can all jump upon a pedestal and attempt to take moral high ground . The rest of us will take a realistic view .
Mate, there's no moral high ground on this. We have all been the footage. There's no excuse for violence in this instance. He's 25 years old. He's had more training than most on social situations. It looks shithouse. He's gonna pay a price. And he has to.

What??!

That report was just about as spot on as you can get from an eyewitness, given the speed it all happened.

Blitz attack, then smashing the guy when he was on the ground.

You can multiply that 4 weeks by plenty now that the worst reports have been backed up by video.

The two most serious allegations from the ITK ‘witness’ was a king hit from behind and kicking whilst on the ground resulting in broken ribs.

Which part of you doesn’t understand NEITHER of those things actually happened ?

FMD.

Making judgement without all information is ridiculous as is the suggestion that he shouldn’t have got him himself in that position based on a selectively released potion of the incident .
No-one is exempt from making mistakes and if rumours I’ve had of ole mate trying to push drugs all night and previously being warned , which people in the area are saying he is known for they may be a lot more to play out .

You have missed the point completely.

Not saying it wasn’t a dog act.

I’m saying it clearly wasn’t a king hit and there was no kicking of the ribs like we were told had happened.

Both of which are extraordinary things to have claimed happen.
Give it a rest with the minimisation

It is absolutely a king hit, usually that’s by a punch not a 10 metre run-up shoulder charge, but it’s any surprise attack that puts the head at risk by impacting ground or table etc.

As was said in court, it’s just lucky this guy didn’t crack his skull after hitting that ground from the initial shoulder charge.

THEN Balta whales on the guy while he is on the ground, repeatedly punching him in the head.

Then punched him in the head as he runs off.

The worst report given to us by SUNS didn’t quite capture the magnitude of this one, but got very close.

What are you talking about?

Balta up from behind and flattened him like a coward. He never saw it coming. He could have knocked his head on the concrete and died. And then proceeded to punch him in the face. So yes that's 'king hit from behind' in my books. And yes I did make that distinction about the kicks to the ribs as opposed to the punches to the face. The rest matches very closely to what is being reported by multiple media. Anyhow as I said, it aged a hell of lot better then some of the BS supposed insider information shared at the time.

Ok - you’ve equated a king hit from behind with an almighty shove from behind. Ok then…. you’re the only person in this world who equates an almighty shove with a king hit.

The ITK report also implied the victim was king hit from behind and essentially knocked out. Then whilst knocked out and lying on the ground Noah came over and proceeded to kick him multiple times and break his ribs.

The video shows an almighty and cowardly shove, followed by some drunken punches whilst he was looking at him resulting in no serious damage.

The argument that we should let justice take its course and wait for a verdict from the court would only make sense if Noah were to protest his innocence. He has pled guilty, we've got video of the incident, and the club and the league are entitled to deal with piss-poor conduct like this however they think appropriate. People die from assaults like these. I would be shocked if he were running out with the boys after serving a 4-week suspension (2 weeks before sentencing!)

The club should come out today and say he won't be considered for selection pending the outcome of the sentencing.

4 weeks looks really bad on the club's part now, there is no way we play him.
The 4 weeks would be based on his admission and hedging their bets on the situation. There is no doubt that the club would of thought they could sweep it under the rug and pay the guy off. The video made that near impossible though.

Players who are charged are still under the presumption of innocence. Now Balta had plead guilty, he is now guilty of a crime and deserves punishment. So the argument can be made that he shouldn't of got the 4 weeks in the beginning and should now of got a harsher penalty.

Surely the club will extend his suspension until sentencing at least. The optics are already bad enough.

All I have to say he was lucky he didn't take down the woman also she was standing right next to him.
Ohhh all the fun to be had today as it's still early lol
Your take on this is all about what ifs.
Your starting too sound like the afl and their potential too harm considerations when handling down suspensions.
What Balta did was stupid but under your what if campaign we all should stop driving cars as it too is a deadly weapon if driven incorrectly.

At this point it’s definitely the best course of action imo

Let’s the club/league save face with the release of the video but still doesn’t hang Balta out to dry until the verdict is reached and sorted legally

Club can re assess after that

PetterdHoisted you are very strong on this being a "King Hit" despite there being no punch thrown towards an unsuspecting victim. Are you able to provide a definition for a King Hit then? Because at present yours fails the legal test and the colloquial understanding of the term.

Lastly, if this was a "King Hit" in your books then I want to know how you would characterise the below footage.

nothing is being minimised, reckon I’ve said 5 or 6 times now it was disgusting and not on so don’t come at me with that.

Because you then actually agree with my exact point in your last sentence.

So you do agree that the version of events we were told were not an accurate representation of what happened.

That is literally all that was being said, which you yourself also said.

That doesn’t take away from how disgusting what actually happened was.

Glad we could sort that out.

The club should get on the front foot & announce it today, before the AFL comes over the top.

You already have Kane Cornes & David King on SEN calling for a harsher penalty.
The club enforcing it themselves would show maturity & would stop all the noise & distraction this could distract the players as well.

Not sure why people are so confident that the club would have seen this footage already. It was evidence tendered by the prosecution. Noah would have seen it, but I'm not sure how it would have made its way to his employer.
The club could of easily asked for the footage before Noah handed himself into police. Correct me if I am wrong but he handed himself in the day after (i.e. if the assault occurred at 1.30am on the 20th he handed himself in on the 21st), which would of given the club plenty of time to reach out and ask or purchase the footage, review and then advise Balta to hand himself in.

Wasnt Marlion still able to play after he was suspected of agrivated burg?
This is bloody stupid by Noah but he dosnt deserve to be thrown in jail.
Cope his fine and do the required therapy and move on.
Only difference Balta has pleaded guilty. If he plays interesting to see how the opposition fans go.

Well he has plead guilty to a crime so yeah it would be fine for them to come out and announce a harsher penalty. As far as the contracts are concerned, his guilty plea would enable the club to cut him today. If we did that you would have to assume that his money is freed up in our salary cap.

Why would the venue hand security footage over to an AFL club? It's possible I guess, but it seems very unlikely.

If the prosecution had the vid then Baltas lawyer would have as well way before the court case.
