Player Watch #21: Noah Balta - Pleaded Guilty To Be Sentenced March 27th

He pled guilty to “elements” of the case…But basically that he hit the guy…The police and the defence have to talk about the details of that…It’s probably over the use of the term “intentional” rather than “reckless”…He’s been re-bailed to 27th March for sentencing, so it will be resolved before then…

Anyone who thinks the AFL’s fingerprints aren’t all over the 4-week suspension has been asleep for years. AFL would’ve found out the basic facts, and asked what we were doing about it. We probably said we’d wait for the court case to play out. AFL would’ve said they didn’t quite hear us, and asked again what we were doing. We probably said a 2-week suspension. Funny enough they didn’t quite hear us again … so we said 4-weeks and they said ‘that sounds like a good idea’.

AFL would’ve 100% been sure to have the suspension not too short as to embarrass themselves with what they gave GWS players for playing dress ups.

Anyone who thinks this suspension wasn’t insisted upon by the AFL is kidding themselves.

Almost entirely likely you are correct, luckily, Richmond did address it enough with suspension length that AFL didnt need to be seen to act. Actually best situation for both entities.

If Richmond had of swept under the carpet from club point of view, AFL would've come in harder and likely more than 4 games. Again, in my view, smart by the club to of seemingly hit the right balance

What about the Tom Atkins story Mitch? Reporting on that gimp? Suck a *****er Mitch. Loves cat *
mitch didnt put out a tweet when atkins was in court

Spot on.

Yeah some of the commentary around this on socials is shocking.

Today we learnt nothing new.

Him pleading guilty just confirms he did hit someone which we already knew. Assuming it was seen on CCTV so he couldn't exactly plea not guilty.

Nothing about the plea speaks to the intent or circumstances surrounding the event, which is what a lot seem to not realise on the socials. all of that is still to play out in court.

still stupid of him to have even done that and been in a position where it was even a possibility, and violence is never ok and never the answer, but some of the accusations going around on the back of this are wild.

I haven't really commented on this forum in months, since the draft stuff.
honestly this incident is very disappointing, when he was given a 7-year deal, I'm not going to lie, I didn't think he deserved it at all. not saying he isn't a good player or not one of our most important players now but he hadn't done enough for me to warrant that length now that this has come out it's a disaster for the club after giving him 7-years. no one should be defending it. I might be jumping the gun a bit but what if worse case scenerio happens & he has to serve time? are we protected in the contract (the club)? even if he gets a slap on the wrist I hate to say it nothing is stopping the AFL from coming over the top, it's a bad look for the game.

No people were calling people liars and making things up even though some had first hand knowledge from reliable witnesses. The fact the club suspended him so quick was due to Balta admitting what he did from the word go. Good for him on that front others would have been denying and cowering behind the AFL banner. Hell get a community order to serv with his RFC duty's. His lucky the dude didn't get a severe head injury otherwise would be a different story. Again Good on Balta for taking responsibility which has lessend my views on it.

Had a mate who was there talking to him about an hour earlier and said he was good. He also told me the day after it came out, that he is 95% sure what happened because he was there, and it’s sounding pretty accurate the way it’s playing out.
