Lots of names come to mind. Not sure what happened to Bowen Lockwood but he was supposed to be massive.

Allen Jackovich lacked the attitude
Wingard has never been the same since 2014
Clive Waterhouse could have been massive

Jakovich had the attitude, but his back was cactus

the most mercurial player i've ever seen, with Liam Jurrah not far behind him

I was reading in an old forum that Allen liked to party too much. Glen was more of the professional

Or have I got that the wrong way around?

I loved watching Jurrah play. I had no idea what a shit stain of a human being he was. If his talent was in a better person he would have easily been a 250 game player who would be right up there in this 21st century draft.

Your other pick that year Leroy Jetta was an unbelievable talent a well. I thought Essendon are set after that draft.
If the AFL hadn't changed the priority pick rules halfway through the year we'd have walked away with either Selwood or Boak at pick 4 (most say Selwood, some say Boak). Took Alwyn Davey and Kyle Reimers too.

That draft was such a miss not just for Essendon. How the **** does Robbie Gray get bypassed to pick #55.

The KPPS at the top were fizzers. Selwood and Boak were the standout mids although I think there was some doubt over Selwood with an injury. Teams went for KPPS and it failed.

IT was a tough draft though because looking back it was always going to be hard to spot the best players in that draft.

You went West Aus crazy in 06/07 - Jetta Gumbelton Reimers Hooker Myers. Davey and a Daniher only non WA picks and one was F/S.

Funny thing is you ended up getting pick 4 from that year at your club- Matt Leunberger.

Finally a call that I could respond to.

I really wanted Andrews but I had a strong suspicion he would go at the pick before me. I still didn't have a great back up plan.

The idea of this player joining Stewart is just too funny. I love his versatility and capacity to weaponise us as an intercepting machine. He can still play on the talls too and hold down a KPD spot if necessary - especially if we set him up in a well oiled defence where players cover for each other while creating outnumbers.

Should've had at least one more AA to now and is consistently lighting up the rebound 50/intercept charts - between him and Stewart I have the cream of the crop in this regard. Another ticked off on my team who has been captain and one I think would get more recognition if he had been a part of great teams/defences (in the dynasty version of his side he'd have been perfect).

James Sicily goes Westside.

I feared the long wait until my next pick would have both "best in class" intercepting/rebounding defenders swept up to join 1v1 defensive KPD's. I couldn't risk missing out on both. And it was still a little too early to go for an upper B grade full back. I'm not afraid to throw Weitering's name out there as he will go soon anyway. But it did take him a while before he became the Def 1v1 loss % beast he has been 2023/2024. On current form he is AA level but the likes of Stewart/Sicily in their positions have been better for longer.

HaHa those two in the same team! If you can find one lock down big boy defender later your backline is set to allow Stewart or Sicily to be the more attacking 3rd tall. Team is looking nice.

Of all the teams Sicily could go to, I did not expect it to be the only one that has a similar player in Stewart already there.

I thought I might rate him the highest and get him first but not to be.

Also, should have had a few more AA's in my view (but I think I already promised you in the another thread that I won't bring that up again ;))

Fremantle hunting their first midfielder? Can you select Ben Cunnington to bring back the athleticism in your team?

He just wants to annoy you I think haha

It is why I went for Oliver now as I knew 30 picks later the front line in and under midfielders, at least the ones that can dominate another team will all be gone. It was a now or never thing, even if there are other players I probably wanted over Oliver.

Fair point, but Sicily still does play taller/bigger than Stewart. It might not be his absolute strength but he can still easily match up on a the 2nd/3rd best tall if I can find a value full back. I really don't think sides will get stuck having two intercepting/rebounding machines. Both good in the air to patrol their line. Likely we'll have one sit deeper and one push to half back.

Also we had a real chance to p*** off Hawthorn's recruiters and all other things being equal those opportunities won't be passed up on (we have some ex-Cats in our coaching ranks). :p

I considered picking him up, but I wonder how late until the number 21 on all time Brownlow career votes list gets picked up. If he had played in a proper team I think people would value him higher.

Surely fits Freo's needs list.
