I think that was mostly public posturing on Talking Footy last night by Brad Scott on Goldstein. Club has something in the works. doesn't take a genius to work out why Majak hasn't signed up. He is waiting to see if the club can facilitate a trade for Goldstein to make sure/ cement his spot in the team week in week out. I am fearful (and very annoyed) that if Todd refuses a trade then we probably will see the back of Majak which would dent our future somewhat
I love reading posts like this knowing that at the time it was made, Majak had probably already signed.

Say we do end up trading goldy at his request.

The picks we would likely net back will definitely help get a few trades across the line we have been eyeing up for a while (read years), those players could even be part of the trade I guess.

Would be extremely sad to lose goldy though.

The trade Goldstein thing has me fecked.

The bloke is the same age as LT, Selwood, Boak etc. He's hardly a pensioner.

One injury ravaged season has seen him shift from top 3 in AFL player to bait?

While we're at it just noticed the ASX went down a few points time to offload some blue chips. Back in 5.

The rumours doing the rounds is he might want a trade to a contender. I doubt anyone actually wants to lose him.

Trade Goldstein is something spouted on here every year.

Maybe has more legs this year due to ambiguity of him wanting out and us wanting to reset.

Would have to be overs.

2 top 10 picks.

1 top 10 pick and a starting 18 quick skilful mid.

We'd have to consider it.

However trading him requires us to do a second trade for a quality second string ruckman.

Longer as backup perhaps.

Nothing to do with having an injury ravaged year. All to do with our window closing, a need to significantly rebuild our one paced midfield whilst not having the picks to do so, nor being able to attract quality FA's to add that quality.

Todd is an asset. Assests sometimes need to be moved on when opportunities arise to reinvest in areas requiring significant attention. We would get more from Goldy than anyone else on the list so if a offer came up tht gave us a top ten pick plus something else meaningful we would be mad not to give it serious thought.

Come on KC. You're better than that. What BTron said.

I do enjoy when posters like Naturally north, ozzyozlo, myself, and more post the trade goldstein stuff and apparently it's the most preposterous thing anyone has even said. Then BTron says it (albeit with better wording but still the same theme) and it's fine and posters start to come around.

3 weeks ago i said a similar thing and 'only forwards' melted his keypad and i was stoned.

I read a similar thing happening once:

-the north posters took up stones again to stone him. Uber answered them, "i showed you may good works from the goldy trade to help with the reset; for which of them are you stoning me?" The north posters answered him, "for a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy; and because you, being a man, make yourself out to be a god list manager." (Scott 10:30-33)

2016 years and we still haven't learnt a bloody thing!

To use your stock market analogy, a successful trader knows when to buy a stock, hold it and when to sell.

Rarely, do you buy something and hold it for the rest of your life.

Looking at Goldy's football career, I am certain his value is higher now than, what it will be in 3 years time.

So if you trade him now, you get the draft picks you need to do a mini rebuild.

Wait 3 years, and we get nothing.

Now, in an ideal world, I would love to keep keep Goldy. But in reality, we NEED to get talent in to bolster our midfield.

The club has to make some tough decisions.....

I would not be against trading Goldy for a minimum top 10 pick and a top 20 pick or a top 10 and a quality midfielder. Problem is if he does want to go to a contender they don't have top 10 picks nor do most quality players at a top club want to leave to come to a team rebuilding.

He has been very durable across his career but I can't help to think that this year will become the norm for Goldy as far as output is concerned due to his high volume workload.

I don't think you can be as big as Goldy and cover the amount of k's and not have a significant wear on your body.

The last 4 years of high volume would have seriously taken its toll, the game is still getting faster and I have serious concerns that he may be one of those ruckman who gets a lot of injuries post 30 years of age.

If we dont see ourselves as genuine contenders for the next 3 years then I personally think we should be looking to trade him. Ruckman only need to be competitive in this day and age and they don't need to be world beaters. If we got one top 10 pick and a another pick inside 15 I personally would do it in a heartbeat. Then look to a fringe ruckman who can pinch hit forward with Maj. Pick up a young ruck like Jordan Sweet to develop along with Preuss.

Two guns mids are significantly better than one solid ruckman.

The irony is even despite injuries hindering Goldy this year, he still had as good a season as he did in 2013/14 when he was right in the mix for AA selection (actually made the initial squad in 2013)...Fact is he had probably the most complete year ever by a ruckman last year in terms of the ways he was able to impact a game and how frequently he did it which was always going to be hard to top and even match with full health, let alone with obvious constraints...

Would leave a major hole if he were to request a trade this year (though I'm cynical he will)...Not sure Maj has the tank to take up much more slack in the ruck (think he's better suited to playing a predominantly forward role anyway with his explosiveness) and Brown you just want forward given what he was able to do up there this year...Not aware of any ready-made replacements in the feeder teams either, so really hoping this Goldy trade chat dissipates..

North doesn't play guys with injuries;).
If Goldy was injured, all he had to do was say was sore and let Maj ruck.
He did not do that once in 2016.
I reckon the last 70% of Goldie's year was just utter sh1te.
No sting or vigour. Does he really want to be at North? I'm not sure.

Like RF08 my biggest worry is his durability. He has worked very hard for a number of years, alone. It may have been unlucky this season but in the past we've seen players start to break down.

Last year we saw a phenomenal goldy. Tougher and throwing himself into marking contests. This year he regressed a bit in those areas. It make have been the injury and not wanting to throw himself in (at risk of injurying himself further), or he may have been told by the coaches to take it easy and just get through the games.

Out of the top 6 teams only jacobs and mumford are quality rucks...possibly tippett, but he's more of a part timer. Id take 2 potentially great midfielders that we could have for 10+ years over an ageing ruck. Especially with the squad in a resetting phase.

By all means if he wants to ship off let him but until such time, it goes without saying, he's still a pretty important cog...Wasn't great from Rd 10 onwards (let's be brutally honest, most weren't) but confident with a good pre-season + injuries permitting he can get back to somewhere near his best..

Funny stuff I'll give you that but ozzyoslo bless him, has been trying to pack off Goldstein to the abattoir since the day he was drafted.
