Backline:
- Only 3 options in the key defensive spots. Without going team by team I'm surprised their aren't more. Andrews a super talent but hasn't had the best run this year
- Docherty and Laird are locks - AA squad worthy players. Mills, Williams close. Nice to see Jayden Hunt get in the list. DBJ the best back pocket there

Midfield:
- Grundy a lock
- Cripps, Merrett, Bont locks
- Coniglio, Viney should make most teams
- Balance between inside/outside for the rest of the spots

Forwards:
- Lock in Hogan and Daniher. Moore and Wright are super talented but don't have the runs on the board
- Membrey deserves a spot as the 3rd tall
- Hard to pick the other forwards based on talent v overall output this year which should be the deciding factor

Heeney will be a superstar but his output is overrated. Even if he does take some spectacular marks, 14.89 disposals and 1.32 goals per game isn't amazing. He's played three or four great games this season and had little influence in most of the remaining ones.

Fantasia averages 14.8 disposals and 1.5 goals this season, pretty much identical to Heeney's...

I just cant see Viney not being in there. Id have him before Merrett, Crouch and Wines based on this year.

No way he is taken over Merrett, it's not even close, would back him over Wines and Crouch though.

Heeney is a far superior player to Fantasia

This just isn't true based on this years form. Heeney has had a couple of really poor patches in 2016. Looking at the stat sheet they are neck and neck and Fantasia has played in one of the worst forward lines compared to Heeney. Based on work to date Heeney definitely has Fantasia covered for selection, but Fantasia on this years output alone isn't as far behind as you'd have others believe. Personally I think Caleb Daniel gets picked over both of them.

No disrespect to Andrews at all, but having him in there over Aliir is a headscratcher.

No it's not.

Andrews is unfortunate he plays in such a poor side. Easily one of the best young key defenders in the game & I'd certainly have him well ahead of Aliir at this stage.

Plus Aliir has only played 9 games this season.

Then why act like there's been a gulf between them?

I'm not, he just said Heeney's output was overrated and it's very, very similar to Orazio's...so in that case, is Orazio's output overrated?

Ahhhh that's why. cheers for that!

I'm a technology battler so I can't link the side:
FB: Laird Lever DBJ
HB: Docherty Weitering Williams
C: Kelly Bont Hunter
HF: Cameron Hogan Heeney
FF: Fantasia Daniher Membrey
Foll: Grundy Cripps Coniglio
Int: Mills Viney Merett Stringer

Orazio isn't being rated, thats his whole point to this.

You said yourself the stats are almost identical, yet one is talked about as some superstar while the other isn't being rated a mention.

Their output is similar yet they're not rated similarly. Fair enough in general, because I'm certain Heeney will be a better player, but based on performance so far there's nothing ridiculous about putting Fantasia ahead of Heeney (not that you did say that).

Billings has been poor at times this year, struggled with injuries a lot and hasn't been able to kick straight. Despite this he's still averaging dead on 20 disposals from 16 games. Had a couple stand out games vs Collingwood and Richmond. Will be a gun long term.

Maybe, but not really relevant in this discussion.

Things that stand out:
  • Crows!! 7 young players in the current best 22 for the Crows - without high draft picks, missing a couple of rounds (Tippet) while still playing finals and never doing a rebuild.
  • Richmond 1 player? These guys are in trouble as they have been playing 'kids' for most of the year
  • Roos 0 players? Ouch. Can you see a cliff coming?
  • St Kilda. 3 players from a 'rebuild' team is a bit poor.
