Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Great post and I agree. I may be in the minority, but I hope he rolls on again in 2023. Luv the Bud.
Agreed, I know a lot of people are keen to see the younger guys step up and officially take the mantle, but how could you say no if Bud wants to go around again?

If Bud's keen, surely the Swans make it happen!

4x AA
2x Coleman
3x Grand Finals
6x Leading Goal Kicker
3x Brett Kirk Medal

Record memberships and most sold numbers most years as well
Don't forget 700 x putting bins out

Literally the last game of his contract and he has another chance at the elusive premiership as a Swan. Goal to win it after the siren would be the dream but my heart can't take another close one.

Its ridiculous what the Big Bud has to do to get a free kick. For instance, the most blatant front on contact in the first quarter that led to Ryan Clarke's goal simply ignored. Does make me a little concerned for next week.

I thought some Geelong players had the luxury of being able to take slightly less because of some property developer offers housing for cheap? So he's probably not on as much as he could be. Or is that just a rumour?
They get ex-officio deals from non club sponsors. This allows the club to pay less. This is really bending the salary cap rules. Only personal sponsorships made by sponsors with absolutely no links to the club should be allowed. But they aren't. Most of these sponsors have a long history of involvement woth Cats. The Ex President was one. His company paif Garry Ablett Jr $200,000/year for 4 personal appearances at his company functions.

These sorts of deals are arranged by the clubs, Hawks, Cats, Bombers etc but effectively mediated by the player manager. So they are seen as legal under the current rules.
