Soft. Like all Clarkes draft picks.

Ok so all of the following are soft:

2017 Balta Miller Higgins CCJ Baker(AFL Most Courageous Player 2022)

2018 Ross Aarts

2019 Pickett Dow Stack Cumberland Ralphsmith Nyuon

2020 Ryan Rioli Jnr Mansell

2021 Gibcus Brown Sonsie Banks Clarke

2022 Green Smith Campbell Young

We have already seen enough of the bolded players to know none of them are soft. Miller is becoming a bit more confident physically all the time. I am sure some of the others will eventually become tough enough if they are good enough as well.

Silly comment.

Can we afford to keep him on our list like we did with Sheds for over a 100 games before he physically developed as a vfl player? Looks like a late bloomer to me and needs more vfl time before giving him games.
Sheds showed plenty more than Judson in his early days. The signs were there, especially with his elite disposal. Judson hasn't shown much. Be shocked if he gets anywhere near Sheds level.

Think we often overlook just how difficult it must be to be the sub.

You sit there for two hours with no real warm up, unable to absorb the speed or flow of the game and then come on and expect to inject yourself straight to impact.

Clarke has shown multiple high IQ moments this season for mine. That’s enough to provide hope.

Might take a few seasons and a slow build to add things to his game, but can see him being a very handy high half forward (not a small forward I don’t think) in time.

Apparently this off-season was all about getting his aerobic capacity up. Next we may see more opportunities to get up around the contest more.

Edwards’ hands were always an elite but his disposal by foot was never elite early days. I remember in his early days kicking 30m wormburners that got all of 30cm off the ground multiple times a game.

Being the sub would be very tough, his game against West Coast was pretty bad though (think he had 2 kicks). Hes certainly worth persisting with in the seniors for most of the remainder of the season. He certainly has high IQ moments, he really should be able to find more of the footy though.

It’s the life of a second year AFL player in my view.

All our debutants last year (Clarke, Sonsie, Cumberland, MRJ) are all struggling this year.

Think a lot of that is year one you’re given the freedom to play. Year two you start to get a role.

Making it doubly hard is Clarke has been sub more often than not; so time on ground has generally been limited.

It takes time to grow, understand and gain confidence in playing that role. AFL footy these days is extremely technical, whilst flowing so quickly. Where to run to, when to go, when to stay, when to push up to the contest and when to fold back etc.

Yes he needs to find more of the footy; but I think that will come. May not be this season, and it may only be 15 or so touches a game, but I think he’ll get there.

Elite disposal early days? 😂😂😂😂😂 He was known as Shank for good reason Mate, his kicking was deplorable

Baker wasn’t Clarke’s pick it was our WA guy Sam Cousens
Pickett was another Cousens pick
Stack is gone
Higgins is gone and we got a shite pick in return.
FAarts is gone
Ross is a dud and very soft
Mansell just cost us a game because he couldn’t kick a point from 30m out; and
Sonsie avoids contests and refuses to chase

That leaves Balta, MJR who was F/S, Cumbo who Dimwit wont pick and Clarke never wanted anyway (he was a decoy pick hoping Brisbane would match and we would get Martyn) and Gibcus who has paper hamstrings

Notice u left out RCD another 1st round Clarke special. Also took Dow over Devon Robertson and reckoned he was going to be Shane Edwards mk2 - LOL

Really odd comment

So despite Clarke being the recruiting manager to ultimately makes the final call on a player any interstate player identified by an interstate scout Clarke can’t get credit for but any other player identified by the same process using scouts who you think are soft are Clarke’s fault

That is some serious mental gymnastics you are using

Just stating facts. 100% on the money

Another with a short memory, Sheds was a whipping boy, posters here asking for him to be dropped every 2nd week for being too skinny and small.

Stop trying to rewrite history.

Played as the sub in the last 4? games in a row.

Wouldn’t mind giving him a bit more then quarter to get a bit more of a an idea.

His bulldogs game was very good. 20 touches a goal 9 marks and 5 tackles.

Kicked 6 goals straight on 8 games. I think he’s progressing well.

Kid has played a dozen games and is being written off? LMAO some of you guys have small memories or about 10 years old because you can't remember what some of our premiership players were like when we drafted them.

Shane Edwards a case in point. Countless times my mates wanted him delisted and he became an absolute gun with some experience under his belt

He looks like a footballer, and has great goal sense. Is a little soft but that could be confidence. Any picking him this far out as a failure is just guessing, period.

Most picks outside the top 5 or so is all about time and development. They all can go either way.

He is not soft he just is not of the size yet to compete strongly. Those who have played footy know what a difference even just 10kg makes to strength difference with power athletes. He is a kid with a slight frame who looks really really good and will only get better.

He and Gibcus are the only 2 that will make it from that draft haul.

Which one is not a fact?
Where do I start?

Pickett and Baker not Clarke’s picks,
Talent would of been identified by interstate scout Sam Cousens but Clarke ultimately decided to use the pick to select the player identified

Ross is soft and a dud. - That is an opinion so also not a fact

Cumbo being a decoy pick doesn’t make any sense at all, if we didn’t want the player we wouldn’t of bid on him in the first place

You mentioned RCD when you are taking about players being soft, RCD may not of worked out but he wasn’t soft if anything it’s the opposite with his contested game being a standout but lacking on the outside… but at the very least that is also an opinion… not a fact

Sheds kicked constant turnovers for the first years of his career... it was his agility that stood out, instead.

Jesus, this is approaching Mr Magic levels of separation from reality. :drunk:

You just should not argue with stupidity

They have too much experience

It's an utter joke how many of our kids are apparently no good. Getting sick of reading it TBH. The kids are fine, they are raw and still getting used to the increased pace of seniors.

It seems if you're not Nick Daicos then your no chance.

How did you get in here ??

You make too much sense

I keep reading this but have not seen it

Can you or anybody give me an example of where he was 'soft'
I have most games recorded so if anybody can give me a game or quarter where he has pulled out or shirked and contest id love to see it

he is an outside player so if by soft you guys mean doesnt go into the pits to get the ball then soft is not the word you should be using
