i would love to know what the coaches really think about him. like almost everyone else on here, i think hes clearly an elite prospect. i cant shake the feeling he is still on the outer for whatever reason.

Nah he isn't, old mate has him ahead of Phillips in the pecking order. Tommy's impressing.

Not on the outer anymore. I'm heading he's agreed of Will on the tangibles but Will has him covered on things like setups, voice, etc. Both impressing this pre season.

Interesting to hear Kearney in her interview say they like his running while others do the “in and under” stuff. IMO, Powell’s best work is in the contest and I wonder whether his strengths will be used to best effect?

From what I’ve seen when I’ve been down there I’d have him above Phillips too. No surprise though considering Wilphil is coming off a long break.

Yeah for sure and of course I wasn't potting young Wil.

I've had some heated conversations around Tommy and his insipid 2022, old mate is a huge fan.
Tommy certainly has come on since Nobles was ****ed off.

Lol think there might be a small correlation between those two things

Great intra performance.

All over TP to become one of our best! Good things happen we he gets the ball!

Held himself very well against Cunners and Jye towards the end. The extra KG's in muscle will serve him well this year.

All aboard ........
From the highlights, the thing I am loving is his Jy-like dancing in a phone booth evasiveness.

Ideally I reckon you want a “meat and potatoes “ player to get it out to Powell where he can set up play.

Just watched the replay and I thought close to if not BOG for mine. Also, I know he got caught on a break by LDU (how much has LDU improved in this regard??) but I love how Powelly straight up just bumps into LDU who is trying to pick the ball up after winning the free.

LDU then goes to give a shove back and TP barely budged (thank you extra 5-6kgs). LDU then tries a second time with more force and manages to move TP but I found that whole by-play very interesting. A bit of a look into the mindset of TP perhaps? One, it shows he's got some mongrel in him. Two, he's not afraid to take on/take a step back from the big dog of our midfield now in LDU. Maybe he thinks he is or can be just as good as LDU? (Wouldn't that be a mouthwatering prospect?) Three, he was annoyed at himself for letting that play slip. I think he knows he has a lot more to give then what he showed last season. Can't wait to see him in full flight this year and beyond!

I’d like to hope that all the draft capital we have spent in the midfield has generated more than meat and potatoes. Surely we should be at least aiming for a seafood linguini or a coq au vin? Just as long as we don’t have to live through another season of the tofu plated up last year.

At any rate, I just watched the replay and heard Brady interviewed and he said Powell’s best work is in the contest. So hopefully Emma just hasn’t caught up on his role yet. That’s where I think Powell is at his most creative.

One of may calls in the prediction thread was for TP to have a break out year.

Long way to go - but signs are there early.
Yep. He’s also my pick.
I really liked some of the signs he showed in season 1. Was worried for a bit there last year that we’d not end up seeing his full potential in North colours &/or he’d be asking for a trade.
Great to see he’s bulked up in the off season & whilst I’m still yet to watch yesterdays game, I’m loving hearing he was a standout.
Opposition teams are going to be scratching their heads soon as to who gets a tag out of LDU, Powelly, Will & George.

Shiel mentioned on the replay that he's put on 6-7kg's since the end of the season.
We have to remember that he came to us on the back of a pretty serious hip injury and that we would have been reluctant to load him up too quickly weight wise so to allow his hips and pelvis time to get used to the running loads. Hopefully this weight gain is indicative of this no longer being a concern.

We also need to factor in the fact his old man was a pretty solid unit when he was playing.

The sky's the limit for this bloke. Simon Black-esque.
