Has never exploded from one year to the next but has now built his game year on year. I'm expecting the trend to continue. 2024 was the first year where I'd say you could mount an argument that he was our best on a couple of occasions which is a great trend. If he can build another 10% on his game again this year he is starting to get into that dangerous level for us. I see the Simon Black comparison, although I think Tom might trend less athletic over his career, more dangerous in front of goal (he's about the best exponent of the old school snap we have) and will end up a bigger, more solid player allowing him to float through true centre more often with the right mix around him. Big positive from 2024.

Yeah... I don't know where you're getting this from. From what I've seen, Simon Black comparisons are insulting to Simon Black and not terribly beneficial anyway given the trend away from that sort of midfielder

Just too many gaps in Powell's game. Too many clashes in his skillset. The only remedy I can see is that his defensive pressure comes up to scratch and he learns/works up the motivation to tackle both regularly and effectively. That would make him a meaningful presence. A big improvement compared to his current state of drifter who does **** all defending and who doesn't have a third gear

Chill zoomba. It's a player type comparison, not a career biography and awards list. I'm aware Powell hasn't had the career of Black yet. By the same token I reckon Simon Black also would have done **** all in the current roos team at the same age.

I just want to see some more barrels from Tommy next year. That 55, 58, 61, 64 meter bomb he kicked in one of our wins was a Mastercard moment for this year. By early 2025 it will grow another 5 meters in length 😎. I’d definitely think he is part of our best 22 and would love to see him go to the next level and be more consistent through the year.

Mids batting order should be LDU , sheez, warlord ,Powell , Jy , Kerch , Phillips.

Would rather Powell in the middle than Jy
Parker will start in the mids.

Warlord, Powell and Jy will be the second rotation.

Intra club will be interesting - especially if Phillips was to get motoring along.

Wouldn't shock me if Sheez isn't in the primary starting midfield group considering the versatility he offers.

Sheezel to start in the middle, get Parker and Simpkin to take turns pushing up from half forward to cover his man allowing him to concentrate on finding the pill and hurting the opposition with elite disposal and decisoin making.

Yeah Melbourne did this pretty effectively with Petracca and Neal-Bullen which is what allowed him to focus on being the forward half monster that he is.

Where’s the Tommy Powell love after coming back in ripping shape and is flying on the track
He will absolutely explode this year, improved his build, moved in to the top ten runners at the club, has great disposal and a footy brain. Had a really good fourth year, his fifth barring injury will be great.

Doing everything he can. Hope he makes that 5th on baller spot his own.
Doesn’t work hard enough defensively. Unaccountable. For him to cement his spot he needs to fix that part of his game.

Go look at the footage from GC game, first Q in Darwin. Refused to chase or apply pressure. One example. Cant happen

At the risk of being called a Powell hater or anything similar, I think he might struggle to stay in the 22 this year.

I have him and Parker playing the same role, and I think Parker edges him out.

From the other thread, here's how I see the 22 this year;

B: Archer - Logue - Corr
HB: Goater - Comben - C. Daniel
C: McKercher - Sheezel - Stephens
HF: Zurhaar - Darling - Simpkin
F: Curtis - Larkey - Duursma
R: Xerri - LDU - Wardlaw
INT: Parker, Phillips, Ford, B. Scott
Sub: (From) Powell, Fisher, Konstanty

Interested in knowing your reasoning of having Phillips ahead of Powell.

Was it last seasons form ?
The BNF results?
The condition Powell returned this pre season ?
Their 2km time trial results ?

Yeah that's a reasonable thing to inquire about.

First and foremost, they play a different role.

Moreover, I think Phillips is set for a massive year. He's looking fit and fully recovered from his illness, and I think he knows that this is his last chance. I'm expecting big things from him this season.

LOL, you're putting Ford and Scott above Powell??

I'm putting Parker above Powell.

Ford and Scott play entirely different positions than Powell. That's like being confused that I have Xerri or Larkey ahead of Powell.

Can we discuss football without personal attacks?
