Definitely needs to improve his marking but thats arguably where most of his potential comes from. He’s never not trying to fly for the ball and mark it. Super competitive and combative, which is probably the number 1 reason why a key forward might bust or never fufill their potential. Once he gets a bit more size on him and figures out the defenders tricks, he will start clunking them and be a very dangerous key forward.
From the highlights he can get his hands to the footy...it just looks like the footy spills free...nothing to do with the oppo defenders tricks at all...his hands must be made of concrete...soft...soft...soft hands is what is needed to snare that footy..
Soak them deep in Palmolive dishwashing liquid before the games...at least they will be clean and smell nice...tempting the footy to stick around!

He sounds like he'll be a bit like Glen Archer except he's taller, he doesn't smoke and he's not a dh.

“I’m just willing to go for the ball.

“I don’t really care who’s in my way or who’s around it.

“I’ll just go in and dive hard at it. Even if it’s in the air as well.

“I just crash packs and what not.”

How anyone can see this guy and think "Glenn Archer" is beyond me.

Just because a player says he crashes packs doesn't make him anything like Glenn Archer. Archer was one of the most courageous defenders in the history of the game ffs. You legit got 1 attribute Glenn was almost a "All timer" at and applied it to skinny kid nearly 15cm taller than him who has just claimed he can do that.

You need to chill out boy

It'll be Gray & Fawcett first. Kosi's signed until 2026. KPF, not a bad back up ruck, delivered 0.9 goals a game. Can play KPD too. Balta~like in that regard. Probably the end of Blight too.

Le Fau & Bauer have been good but injury prone. But with Lynch & Faull, Armstrong, Sims all available,
Seems like Lefau is close.

Lynch & Le fau for back up ruck and one of Faull, Armstrong I guess for starters.

Gray is the one whose spot on the list looks shaky. He was a midseason draft pick up. We also aren't turfing Blight for Kosi to play down back, Hawks tried that, and he wasn't successful in that role at all.

Sims is going to take some time, even in Blair's interview the other day he mentioned how we wanted a player who could possibly ruck and move forward. Lynch is too old to back up ruck and very injury prone so we won't be seeing him in that role anymore. Sims is on the list to take Ryan's spot in years to come, unfortunately we will have to see Ryan play seniors over the next 3 years while Sims develops.

Lefau is solid but i think limited, i have concerns that the club values him higher than what we now have on our list due to his 2024 efforts. I just hope he doesn't go taking valuable game time off one of our other young forwards.

Lefau might play the forward/ruck role until Sims is ready. Don't want to throw Lynch, Armstrong or Faull in to that role.

Gray looked pretty bloody good in his last VFL game where he kicked 4 goals (and 14 disposals, 5 marks). Who was our last listed legit tall forward who has produced anything like that?

I'm a bit bullish on this kid. I just hope he gets a fair crack with all the high-end talent we've just brought in.

I can see him being thrown around a bit but he’s not really contributing until mid year coming off his ACL he’s probably more of a 2026 prospect in that role.

So someone is going to have to step up this year

That's ok. We've got Kozi & Samson to cover until then 😂😂

Shame that he tore his hammy right at the end of that dominant VFL game, otherwise he would've had a few senior games to his name.
Was a certainty to get the role. Now there are like 15 guys fighting for 3 spots

Maybe but they all won't be playing forward. Even in the Riewoldt & Lynch years we never really had more than 2 key forwards. We tried 2 rucks during that time but the club generally would only play 1 ruck.

Lynch
Faull
Fawcett
Armstrong
Lefau
Gray
Sims

that's 7 key forwards not even including Bauer who should be a 3rd mobile option. I really like Bauer. I guess thats why I think Sims is going to end up playing primarily as a ruck in the future kind of like De Koning. Lynch to retire over the next year or 2 so that leaves us with 5 still.

It's funny for years we have been crying out for key forward options and now it seems we have too many lol

Edit: I forgot about Kosi LMAO, he can play down back in the VFL as someone else said he can play back.

Jonty Faull will be the greatest KPF to ever play the game and will form the most destructive partnership ever seen alongside Harry Armstrong and Tom Sims

Firstly, credit where it’s due; did the hard yards to make your point. I respect that.

But to narrow the focus your Oakleigh Charges v GWV Rebels game.

1st quarter 1.23 dropped mark - being held; should have be a free kick. But okay.
1st quarter 7.17 out bodied for a mark - think you have the wrong time stamp; this is a GWV mark but not to Faull.
1st quarter 22.35 should’ve went at the mark with 2 hands - clearly has one arm being held.
3rd quarter 13.32 Dropped mark with 2 hands on it - after doing the hard yards to create space. Harsh mark imo but okay.
3rd quarter 16.26 dropped mark. 2 hands on it. Bit of interference but still should take it - if we’re going to penalize every player for not clunking a mark with that level of interference, there’d be maybe one or two afl level players that wouldn’t be labeled as butter fingers.

Even if we count those above - and the others mentioned - as dropped marks, what % of that would constitute marks not held that should be held? Even with the most conservative glasses on with the harshest judge can’t see it being more than 10% Surely that doesn’t count constitute as ‘butterfingers’.

In terms of your concerns on body positioning I’d say that will take some time to develop, but he’s already ahead of Armstrong, Shanahan and both Whitlocks.

I have concerns around quicker taller defenders being able to get a fist and or close down on closing speed; and I had him fourth in my KPF rankings coming into tie draft. But a drop mark specialist he ain’t.
Elite AFL forwards who have been in the league for a decade drop uncontested marks. Wild to be picking apart a random game of 17?18? year old. No sportsperson in the world has a 100% success rate in what they do.

Also a basketball free throw is from the same spot every time, you have no one contesting your shot, you can have the same routine every single time, yet only 4 players in the history have over 90% success rate for their career. This is one of the most controlled, repeatable action and it's almost impossible for the best in the world to do 9/10 times consistently. Lots of dropped marks are expected.

Marking is also a skill which is learnt, it's something that can be improved upon as it obviously will be coming into the AFL system. If he crashes packs, plays with intent and physicality then he will have an impact.

Early days...but just going by his highlights...I do not see it...
Maybe it was his contested play that got him picked...
My question is how far will that take him in this modern game...?!?
Hope I am wrong...

Average kick, average speed, questionable character - is how one AFL club recruiting team summed up Jonty. They were shocked Richmond took him with pick 14.

I got this info second hand from what I consider a reliable source. Btw, this club rated FOS as clear no.1 pick.
