Player Watch #26: Luke Parker - Welcome to North Melbourne - Konstanty and Parker traded for Pick 44

Talk about diving head first into the deep end. Parker has been involved with everything, on field and off field. Feeling very settled has been loving every part of his move south. The move has seemingly given him a new lease on his footy career and for the first time in 3 years he has a full preseason under his belt.

The younger guys particularly Wardlaw are enamoured by him and are already walking a little taller due to his and Daniel’s influence.

Parker really loves the development side of the game and is enjoying working with Barlow in particular, from my understanding he has sort of taken it upon himself to really help drive that development and professionalism in the younger players (particularly the midfield group).

Every single thing I hear about his influence is incredibly positive and I totally stand by my earlier calls that he could have a Hodge at Brisbane like influence on this young group.

Out of all the stuff you've posted today (all of which is much appreciated) this gives me the most confidence in a turnaround. If Clarko has the requisite energy to put absolutely everything into the club, this year will be exciting

if you read the X link from that story one paragraph really jumps out,

"I'm loving Luke (Parker), having him around, teaching me a few things, going head-to-head … I'm really excited to play with him."These two, at a centre bounce, wearing the same colours?Keeeeeen.

if you go back to the NM v Swans game 2 years ago where BOG was arguably split between Parker and Wardlaw you can get a bit of a gauge of the potential of both these blokes waxing on and off with sheez and LDU running amok at the same time as X continuing his development.

thats some pretty crazy midfield potential with Powell and WillPhill still having room to improve. Luke gives us some time to allow them along with FOS to become part of a starting midfield and thats not even taking Kerch into account!

I think you can pretty much say the midfield current and future needs along with depth have been addressed if Goater can become a drop in replacement ruckman to cover X if he went down.

Think you mean Goad.

Mick Barlow is probably the most important figure in the program, behind the big 2 of Clarko and Vodd imo.

Reckon Parker walks into an assistant role after he pulls the plug

Great report btw, much appreciated.

Rightly, he discusses previous “experienced” cohort and said that experience was lacking according to Clarkson. Hahaha sucked in Happy Meal. Parker thinks you’re a spud too

Another week closer to burning that Membership

When it’s happening? The Captaincy demotion?

Do you have any insight into what they do for the rest of the day when off track outside of Gym work? Like do they have Clarko sermons, analyse clips, line meetings?

Rehab & Mobility training has been a big focus the last 12 months. Plenty of the guys incorporate swimming into their rehab as well.

Younger crew spend a lot of time with the development team reviewing tape of players who they want to base their game on (eg: Urqs with Dunkley). Plus reviewing their own tape and analytics of previous years games.

Obviously game plan is always a big focus, but they also do a lot of scenario training, if certain things aren’t working, or if we have a lead with 5 minutes to go.

Depending on player and experience there is also plenty nutritional training and leadership training/planning.

Thanks

I hope they reviewed what to do when your 50 odd points up at half time

They gather around the campfire, toast some marshmallows and let Clarko bust out his best rendition of Cats in the Cradle..

PS: Luke Parker is the man.

Yes well that was 2023 and 2024 and explains everything

We haven’t had any videos out of the Club with him in it this preseason

Actually we’ve barely had any videos

Which is probably why I ask what are they doing other than running around the grass

So from Clarko down everyone is doing everything in their power to improve as a club. Sounds like Clarko has the energy and is up for it as i always believed he did and is definitely the man for the job.
