Out of interest - what makes you think pick 25 (ends up being pick 30) is so heinous of an overpay that it’s worth having a sook over?

But Bailey Smith was almost same value…..
Out of contract and off an ACL? I hope I don’t need to colour this one in for you

Jack Macrae was 47. He’s also 2 years older and in a position they are stacked in.

What else do we wanna go through? Don’t bring up Rioli or Noble - I really can’t be bothered walking you through why those trades were a false benchmark.

End of the day we got their vice captain and 2023 top 4 B&F for a pick that’s worth selection #30 and he’ll play for at least, you would hope, 5/6 years in the blue and white. What’s that, 100 plus games? Now go have a look through the history books and tell me how long the career tends to be of picks in the late 20s to 30s - it’s not that flash.

Did we pay above market value for him? Yes. Is that literally what happens in 95% of trades for contracted players? Yes. It’s just not worth the complaining.
And Kangaroosters goes bang!

oh boy the infamous caleb daniel pick is 2nd up tomorrow night

J whitlock and shanahan still on the board

Maybe, I'm sure we offered our future 1 several times after pick 10 and no one was interested. Not sure our future 2nd was going to get any interest. Would love to get back in to the 2nd round for Gerreyn.
i mean in the trade for daniel

instead of offering pick 25 we should have only offered a future 2nd at most or walked away from him

the ripple effect being that we now lead us to this trade when we could have got a KPP without using a f1 if we just walked away from this trade

in which case we should have walked away from this deal as daniel at 28 is not someone you need to go pay a premium for

kept our pick 25 and used it on a KPP
So you're saying that you think we paid too high for Caleb? Time will tell. I'm hoping he's worth it for a few years to kick start our rise up the ladder.

You don't need to say it 50 times. We get how you feel about the trade. Many of us are worried it was a dud move too.

Filling up the thread with you repeating yourself ad nauseam is nauseating.

Let's sit back and hope for the best! (Not hope that our opinion is right if it means :poov1: for North)

So now this trade is bad? No, it was always a shocking trade and we should have walked away if it was the best that could be done. But, we have Caleb now and hopefully he'll take Matt Whitlock under his wing and show him how to play.

Biggest issue with this trade for me, is he didn't officially request the trade yeat came out after and said he wasent happy and wanted to change. if he actually requested the trade it puts more pressure on doggies to get it done and maybe it then gets done for a future pick instead.

Parker wouldn't have requested it either if he knew he wasn't on the out

No one wants to come to a bottom 4 team and its ridiculous to think otherwise. If all the players could have stayed they would have haha

We're currently paying sh!thouse-tax on our trades. He can help us improve in the short term. Then we will hopefully stop having pay overs for anyone who wants to come.

Yep.

Unless you have a blue ribbon academy zone - 100+ game fathers with exceptional semen - or a Cotton On / Vizy cheque book lying around, the way we're going about it is the only real option ...
  • We've done well out of the draft in recent years
  • Got experience and leadership into the club by over-paying somewhat (... but lets not sh*t ourselves over a 2nd round pick ffs)
  • Now for phase 3... attract some proper, prime-age talent from other clubs via trade and free agency.

My guess is, we'll have to wait for the end of 2026 before phase 3 kicks in.
