From what I can gather he basically started at zero in terms of endurance and running capacity
Looks like we have him at a decent level now but now he needs to work on repeat sprint efforts

A preseason or two with lambert and higgo will sort him out

Stacky’s issues were more attitude. The ability and athleticism were always there.

RCD will get there, but it’s hard to know how quickly. He wasn’t getting big numbers in junior football as a mid, so it’s unrealistic to think he’ll be able to do it immediately in VFL let alone AFL.

Yeah not quite with Stack. Yeah he had some off field and attitude issues and the ability was always there too, but when he came to the club he was waaay out of condition. JR is on record saying as much and that he was throwing up at most training sessions early doors. Credit to him as JR said, he pushed through and he is where he is now.

You may be saying his attitude put him in that unfit space but that otherwise he had the capacity in him to be AFL fit, and if so, I would agree.

Agree. We knew what we were getting with RCD. They drafted him planning for him to be developed for the next 2 or so years before he gets games in the seniors. Might be exposed earlier with injuries but he’s def a long-termed IMO

Hope you’re right re best 22 next year, I reckon it may take a bit longer. One things for sure he’s in good hands our fitness team is first rate
No argument there brother, he is in very good hands

I not that well informed on specifics. But RCD seems to be a power athlete with football talent. So as a junior he used that power to do well. He came on late and didn't really have those years in the high end system. What we drafted was a guy that could power his way through congested situations and get the ball out to advantage, plus he has some extra strings in his size, and speed.

To play AFL he needs to be able to deal with much stronger guys than as a junior, and he needs to do it over and over again. To some extent that is just physical development with our high performance team. As he can get to more contests and can power through them better his numbers should improve. As he learns to play at the AFL level the quality of his play should improve. But despite powerful legs he's fairly small in the upper body and he tank needs work. SO I reckon 2020 is likely the earliest we'll see him strutting his stuff in the firsts. But injuries and form could bring him in in 2019. Still I reckon we've got a winner here. He looks like he'll naturally step up to AFL level with development, and then the sky is the limit.

Spot on.
No pressure in the kid this year.
Imagine being drafted ti Richmond five years ago when we expected kids to be superstars immediatey?
Riley can now ply his trade and learn what he needs learn for all of 2019.
I love this club and what it has become.
Quite right , 5+ years ago he would have debuted r1 had 8p and 3/4 of the peanut gallery would be calling him a spud . What a luxury to have him and the likes of naishy to develop to point they’re really racking them up before a senior call up

This is purely guesswork on my part but I remember when Cotch arrived (Head of fitness I think said something along the lines of) he has mostly a mans body but his tendons are still not completely developed.

In RCD's case he had a late growth spurt in his legs I wonder where his upper body & lungs are ? Certainly his lower body looks like a mans but I'm not sure his upper body has stopped growing yet. I think he turned 19 on 3rd of Feb so I wouldn't mind betting he is still growing....

Apologies if someone has already said this......

Needs to find more ball. Wouldn’t let him near the seniors until he can string a few 20+ possie games together.
Sometimes players get more of it in the AFL becuse the games cleaner and therefore easier in some respects.
I think if he ticks a couple of boxes he will be in

Yeah it's like working O/T on a Saturday after a hard week, the pressure is off...

He's exactly what we need though, a big bodied clean midfielder who can win the clearances and give our forwards first opportunity.

I don't think he's ready yet, we need to see him be able to string together a series of good games in the VFL. Here's hoping he's not far away!
