Get meatloaf out of your mouth, geez that doesn't make any sense at all. I like meatloaf the loaf not to be confused with the lard arse who sang some pretty horrible songs.

You may have spoken to him and heard it directly from his mouth, but what about the tens of members on here who just reckon, yeah they just get a vibe, that he's going to leave ASAP?
Heartened by that update but I'll wait until he has signed.

No doubt TT is a class above on the footy field. Would be close to our most damaging per possession player and he's capable of having the pill 20-25 times a game. I'd be happy for him to be offered an extension before rd1 next season, in the top 10% of our player payments, if he shows commitment to his training program/staying out of trouble over the summer break and early in the new year.

I love watching him take off for runs through traffic and am always confident something positive is going to happen when he gets the ball in space. Silkiness and toughness is a pretty rare combo and we have one of the very few players in the league that has both qualities in spades. The only world where I'd be semi content seeing TT at a different club would be if he gets a gun KP player in the 23-25yo age bracket back in return.

It's annoying seeing this thread get bumped with negative speculations. The club was never going to offer him a contract extension in 2023, so why cant we just wait at least until May/June next year before we start fretting?
Usually you're the one that's fretting Speedy. Surprised you aren't on Defcon 5 with this.

I guess the conundrum is that if he plays to his full potential for half a season, he could reasonably expect offers of $1m per season over a substantial period.

If he shows 100% application during the pre season and he gets himself rock-hard fit, that would indicate that the penny may have finally dropped for him. A fully dedicated TT is potentially a top 10 player in the AFL and would be vital to our next premiership tilt. If he ticks all Clarko's boxes I'd be happy for him to be offered an extension at the start of the season in an effort to lock him down. If he puts signing his contract extension off then I'll be starting to get worried that it'll be his last year with us. He'll be a RFA at the end of 2025, so the extension should be for at least 3 or 4 years beyond 2024.

The wrinkle here is that at 23/24 TT will be expecting his next contract to be the big one. The problem with that is that he’s coming off a reportedly over-inflated contract and will be expecting a significant increase on that. With him being damaged goods, I can’t see North wanting to shift that number too much higher when we’ll actually have some players who will be demanding good coin in the next couple of years (LDU, Sheez, WarLord, Zane/Colby second contract etc.).

That will leave a big gap between what we are offering and what the opposition will value him at.

All that being said, I just hope that him being out of contract doesn’t hurt his value too much and we can try and jag a couple of decent first rounders out of him. I think the outlook is grim TBH. The only way I see him staying at North is if he backs himself and signs a short term bridge contract to take him to free agency to really cash in later on. But that’s a risk for TT given his previous form.

I think this is astute commentary but I’m still confident.

That risk of different expectations is a risk but he seems keen to stay,

TBH if I was his manager, I’d be telling him to sign a short term one, back himself and/or club, then he can test the market later on
Taking away his previous indiscretions, it makes the most sense for all:
  • North don’t get fleeced if something goes astray
  • If he really isn’t happy and we don’t improve, North will look to offload and a shorter deal will be easier to do that
  • He can still earn good $ for a couple of years
  • Signing early allows him to only football and market himself
Far from saying I don’t want him and want to get rid of him, in business it makes the most sense… he will be a very highly $ RFA and with a few bigger teams looking at some lean years, there will be interest for him

Saw him out and about playing some golf with (RHJ?) this morning nice and early. Gave me a big smile when he saw my North cap on. Wholesome moment.

Lovely!

If he plays the first five games of 2024 like he played the last five of 2023 and Viney, Robbie Ahmat and Clarko are happy he's bought him, give him what he wants.

He'd be a bastard of a mismatch forward to keep under control. The appeal to have him upfield is obvious but the thought of him as a '99 Scott Welsh type is enticing too.

Reports he’s trying to hit up the gym early nyd?
