Round 1 vs West Coast

Stats:
Kicks - 7
Handbals - 3
Disposals - 10
Marks - 6
Goals - 3
Dreamteam - 67

Took a good grab early in the match to set up Harvey for the first goal, took a few nice grabs later on aswell but turned it over by foot, he wasn't the only one tonight though. Kicked a trio of nice goals. His goal kicking is much better than his counterpart in Ben McKinley and he looked more fit than he has even been before. Loved the bump on Shoey on the wing aswell. Azza is a better player when he is throwing his weight around and leaping on guy's shoulders. Kicked 3 goals. As usual he was in and out of the game, he would have a couple of marks here and there and then nowhere and then bob up with a goal or mark again. He needs to improve on this. Was the second best forward tonight after Thomas. Overall a solid hitout for Azza.

Rating: 7/10

He'd be much better in a good side. He gets found out a bit when the supply isn't there. I don't know whether we need him but he's a good back-up to have come in.

Fair point mate. You're right, he would be much, much better in a good side. He's probably an adequate 3rd marking forward but gee, he had ample opportunity to prove himself at NMFC.

sort of player I thought the Suns should have picked up
Solid mature body, not going to cost much, but will try his guts out week in week out.
For a guy who can take MOTY I just can't figure how his hands let him down on the easy stuff

Edwards is only good when we are missing the main forward option. Remember the 07 and 2010 season. Both seasons we were missing our full forward, Edward manly held down the key forward role. He is one of those neither here nor there player. Not tall enough to be a good key forward, not agile and versatile enough to be a medium sized forward. Edwards is a small-ish sized player stuck with a big player mentality.

He actually may find himself at GWS next season, I am sure they will be looking for mature age players as they may find getting senior players hard to get.

You can have him for David swallow fair trade i think:D

WHY!?!?!?

Why does he keep getting dropped out of the team!?

10 pos and 2 goals
decent effort if ya all think hes a 2nd-3rd string forward

we need to keep him at full forward or deep forward atleast, hes no good when he pushes up the wing to help out. Doesnt make anything of it. Hes a key forward that kicks a set shot at goal and can make the ball curve through the 2 big ones from the boundary.

drop hansen and keep a bloke that can kick goals when we need em!

agree, with this part of the post anyway.

People constantly whinge about edwards having no form, most of thats due to the frequency he's subbed in and out of the team.

I reckon he'd be worth a try as a sub for a start he'd sit on a tired defenders head 5 or 6 times a game coming in fresh.

Because his second efforts are rubbish and third efforts non existant.
His opponet of the day is always running down field making and setting up play while he stands around looking dorky.

oath! hes played 57 games and kicked 76 goals
we've had him since 2005 and hes only play that many games... its a damn shame, especialy when he kicks a goal a game at least, most our forwards struggle to kick one, its mostly lindsay carrying the forward goal kicking and the mids get amongst the rest of it.
should make the most of Edwards while we've got him, he wont be around for another 10 years. Keep him in

haha! thats gold!
could see that, azza gets subbed on n sets flight.

When McKinley does sweet **** all this week he'll be back to play against Port.

Well McKinley will do SFA this week. He's not playing. BUT this post is right. When somebody shows that he can do the role better than Azza, then he'll keep him out of the side for good. In the meantime, Azza will be a fringe player who is never cemented in the side, but never too far away from it.

Hes pretty useless when played up the ground which is what his role is now.

Sure he can take a grab, but thats about it unfortunately.

Hes a Full Forward in a Half Forward Flankers body. Unless we get a few injuries to guys like Hansen and Petrie I wouldnt expect him to be getting much more game time.

Whats Hansen got over Edwards anyway?
nothing,

-both got the same marking abilities.
-Hansen cant kick, Edwards can.

only thing Hansen might have over Edwards is constant forward defensive pressure.
but when ya see Edwards put defensive pressure on hes like a bull in a china shop, collects players, puts his body over the ball and puts on a decent chase. He needs to show that more.

and so what if he doesn't follow his opponent down field, nothin wrong with cherry picking and our midfield should be more then capable to handle an extra player especially a decent sized defender that wouldnt have much puff

Exactly as much as I like Edwards.

McIntosh, Greenwood and Bastinac will play at some point which means Wright, Ziebell, Cunnington, Adams will spend time at HFF.

If Harper, Black come good then it is harder again for Edwards who atm is already competing with Warren and McKinley.

Pump up Edwards tyres as much as you want but don't make yourself look like a tool in the process.

Edwards first season was 2007 not 2005.

Edwardes finishing is his weakness. How many times did he not make the distance from 40 out? I agree he may have performed better with a team delivering the ball better but have to say over all he has been a disappointment. Way too inconsistent although he doesn't have that on his own.

Am I tripping ? (Don't answer that.)

One of the rote criticisms of Edwards on this board seems to be "too inconsistent". However, unless I'm mistaken, Edwards was one of our more consistent forwards for a large part of last year. In the 15 games he played in 2010, he averaged 13 touches, 5 marks, a couple of tackles and a couple of goals a game (which would have had him over 40 goals if he'd played a full season). Can probably add a goal assist or two to that, also. And it's not as if that average was bumped up by a freak performance (or couple of performances), either. If you check his game-to-game numbers, they indicate a pretty even spread.

I understand and am well aware of his shortcomings as a footballer, but trotting out the old "too inconsistent" line seems a bit lazy and inaccurate off the back of his 2010 season.

Obviously Scott wants Ziebell,Atley,Adams,Cunnington,Hansen,Tarrant,Goldstein,Wright,Thomas,Anthony,Grima,Thompson,Richardson and Bastinac and Greenwood to get to the 70-100 game mark as quickly as possible despite what filth they throw up on occasions, as he sees our next flag and our hopes lying with this group.

Wells,Swallow,Petrie,Firrito,Rawlings and Harvey would be in his plans as well.

I think he sees eventually Harper coming in for Harvey, Black for Petrie and McMillan for Rawlings or Firrito.

Throw in another Key defender (maybe Car Keys) and Majak and that is a squad of 27-28 which all good premiership sides have.

If you are Garlett,McMahon,Edwards,Pratt,McKinley,Warren,Urquhart and even Big Hamish you will not be picked in front of any of these players barring some horrfic form, poor discipline or not following the game style or not being able to adapt to it.

This is why Edwards has gone out and McKinley, despite 5 goals was not picked.
