Yep, the problem is even if he does, his slight frame will get worn down, so needs to add extra string to his bow pretty quickly

Yep too slow for his body weight and shape which makes him very limited. What this extra bow is really unknown to me as he's too short and not strong enough to play a tall position, can't jump to save himself so useless for wing/hf/hb and he's also very slight and slow. When you think about it he's really got an empty bag of tricks .

You can find dozens of durry smoking plumbers in the VFL that could do what Dow is as an inside midfielder. Get rid of him.

You can't make it as a inside mid if you have small frame and he has that type if body.

Dow doesn't have tools at AFL level. it's that simple there are players that aren't bulls that make it in the middle, but they have other assets.

Dow is a very similar build to Zak Butters, but Butters is a tough little bastard with good foot skills, can get outside ball and kick goals. Dow can't do anything except feed the ball out from a pack with his hands.

Sorry, I think people are getting confused. Edwards is an example of a slight build whose first 47 games were poo. I remember the times .. he was close to being delisted and most Tiger supporters wouldn’t have blinked an eye if he was. He showed occasional glimpses but overall was a very poor player in his early years.

So I’m making the point Dow should be preserved with. He is showing potential and has some great attributes which should benefit the team as he gains confidence. He’s highly unlikely to ever reach Edwards heights … but his first 22-games are far superior to those played by Edwards.

I didn;t think his first 47 games were poo tho. I thought he showed clear skills, and elite upside - was just super small, slight. He showed he could always play IMO, just size was an issue.

I'm not sure Dow has the ability to impact games in a serious way

Really liked his defensive efforts
Massive 8 tackles and had some big spoils

Pleasing game and hopefully continues to build and grow in confidence and leadership

Kicking is not his forte sadly. He’s had a great inside game tonight, but he’s only a stoppage player. His transition work is still a worry for me bc he doesn’t cover the ground quick enough. He will just be a role player at best , but I doubt he’ll take his game to the next level.

I think that’s his peak, which sadly isn’t enough. As you said purely a stoppage player with a little side stand and hands. Gotta be much more than that to make it.

Also, I don’t like the comparisons with Shedda. Shedda saw the play unfold before everyone else and could make something from nothing.

Had a belter of a game but I do have some constructive criticism...
He plays very safe and within himself which isn't always a bad thing but he is good enough to take some extra attacking steps when he gets the footy.
Will give him a bit more dynamism in his game.

What did you think of his game tonight?

Played great defensively, was excellent with ball in hand, quick feet and good at getting out of traffic. And he only played a relatively low 72% game time.

Anyone who sh*ts on his game tonight isn’t being reasonable. He has played less than 25 games, and anyone who watches tonight and thinks ‘delist’ needs their head examined. He’s got elite traits and we must keep persevering with him.

Sure, if he plays mostly garbage footy between now and end of year he’s still not safe on the list - but his best footy is still 30-40 games away so I’m looking forward to him getting better and better.

Why would his peak be in his 24th game as a 22yo light bodied mid? His peak will begin when he hits 60+ games and 24+yo. Not all draftees are Nick Daicos and Harry Scheezel you know.

If tonight is his standard then he’ll be a terrific player. But he’ll get a lot better than what we saw tonight.

All you want to see in youngsters is elite traits. Because you know they can build on that as they get confidence, more size and gain natural
improvement.

Look at Jack Graham … was never elite at anything, but got NS votes in his 5th game. The 2017 GF remains arguably his best ever game. Because he was a mature body… but he’s no better now than game 5. Because he was only ever ‘good’ at everything and never had any ‘tricks’.

Dow has a few tricks and could be a really good player. games like tonight give me great confidence he’s more likely to make it than not.
