and we broke even. Brett Duncanson thought we made some money but Leigh quickly corrected him.

We should have had a share in those $7.50 beers.

Geelong could have built a new grandstand with that crowd.

....We should have had a share in those $7.50 beers.....
Partly for my own amusement I ordered a whisky and a beer, then pointed out to the lass serving that the whisky only cost 50c more. It had apparently been pointed out to her before me.
The mellow buzz from the combination partly insulated me from the start to the 4th quarter as our self-destruct mode tried to kick in.

The article seems to imply there were significant costs associated with holding the game as a one off .... which it seems Port would have had come off the profit line.

So maybe $100,000 profit for this size crowd in future. Although Leigh saying we broke even suggests he just took the lot and said their was nothing left for us.

Especially given the sort of $$ Adelaide Oval had been offering previously to get AFL to the oval.
I am sure the SANFL did ok out of it.

The really scary part is that the number of tickets paid for would've been the most for any game this year.

Take season ticket holders + SACA members paying + Port AO bandwagon non-members + Crows bringing wooden spoons.....and still no breakeven.

You guys get r*ped no matter what it seems. Surely you should get some coin out of yesterday. If you sold a game to Darwin for $1 million the SANFL would would probably take $1.5 million off you, tough gig. As a neutral watching the telecast it seemed like a re-birth of the footy club, seemed like a special day if you're a Port person. 2 more years stuck at AAMI though, will be hard to get any real momentum out of yesterday next year as people who were at AO yesterday will hate AAMI even more. I just hope there's no devil in the detail when you move to AO full time, wouldn't trust SANFL as far as I could spit.

The place was FULL outside a few hundred seats up in Corpratopia in the members. Let's not even bother with allegations of skimming, Vlad is not stupid and Duncanson has his tongue tied by the puppet master.

Look some one-off payment presumably to SACA for one-off setup expenses IS reasonable. In this case the devil isn't in the detail, it's in the principle (not "equal" stadium deals, just "equitable" stadium deals is all we're asking for) and in the unprincipled (people, mostly at the SANFL). It has given us a great proof point to use, though. Just take 2 minutes when you can, at any time in the next 2 years, to explain to a Vic or anyone with any interest in footy how our club can have a day like that and barely break even, through no fault of it's own and through no factors within its control. We did everything possible to promote the day and had every truly random factor (weather, Father's Day) work in our favour.

Eventually something will break. The stupidity of the petty little men running the SANFL knows no bounds and I will dance on their graves (metaphorically speaking) when it does and then forget the lot of them, as they so richly deserve.

I turned to the bloke next to me and said "mate how can we have this much support and still be on our knees"

And this sort of shit is exactly why.

To say I dislike Leigh w***er Is something of an understatement

Whatever. We broke even for a fixture we would have otherwise copped a giant loss for back at AAMI. Financially speaking, I have no idea what arrangements were made to create such a high break even, so I'm not going to join others in jumping at stadium-deal shadows based on a one-off match three years before we move.

I'm not expecting us to leap into 2014 with the hope of making Kardinia Park profits, but if the AO deal is better than what we enjoy now, I'll be happy to take it as a start.

We are the only team/organization in the known sporting universe that is not allowed to make money from an event drawing 30,000 spectators.

I echo these sentiments.

Young man, I hear you and your friends are stealing goods. But you don't even send a dress to my house. No respect! You know I've got three daughters. This is my neighborhood. You and your friends should show me some respect. You should let me wet my beak a little. I hear you and your friends cleared $600 each. Give me $200 each, for your own protection. And I'll forget the insult. You young punks have to learn to respect a man like me! Otherwise the cops will come to your house. And your family will be ruined. Of course, if I'm wrong about how much you stole, I'll take a little less. And by less, I only mean - a hundred bucks less. Now don't refuse me. Understand, paisan? Understand, paisan?... Tell your friends I don't want a lot. Just enough to wet my beak. Don't be afraid to tell them!

**** me. This and the success of yesterday highlights Port, the SA Government and SACA should be going to the AFL and say 'Get the SANFL out of this'. For 10 - 20 million the bare minimum upgrades of better loos and more catering options could be done and Port could play there right now. The Cows can stay at Leigh and Max park.

The government keeps almost all their money, the SACA gets more by not sharing with the blood suckers and is in control of the oval, we get more in the pocket, the grumpy cows get to keep their knitting circles intact and the SANFL gets out of Ports pockets once and for all. Massive wins all round. :thumbsu:

I like how that story ends.

This whole thread makes me sick. How was this situation ever allowed to happen?

If Port and the Crows have to fund an entire league by themselves, then they should get exclusive or at least priority access to the players that are developed in it. If Wingard goes to the GWS or GC then both SA clubs should get Band 1 compensation.

I still find it bloody hard to believe that it costs us 200,000 dollars plus (or whatever revenue is made plus more) to host a game at AAMI stadium.

And this game surely cost about 3 or 400 thousand as well!

Insane.
