I'd say it'll depend on his form but you probably want to know before then. If he is picked off a VFL practice match I reckon you could back him in for 2-3 games.

terrible luck for Smith with his injury. He and Hannan (sp?) are great finds and both look like naturals. I hope he is back soon.

Depends if he needs a reco or whether they just strap him up and try and get him to the end of the season

Ablett is a bad example as he went about his rehab in a counter-productive way. His religion doesn't allow him to take anti-inflammatorys.
Goodwin did say it would put him out for a while though.

Sucks, but glad the club is taking the conservative route.
Think we learnt a lot of lessons last year with injury management, reckon you won't see an underdone player in our 22 in the near future.
The poor guy ... the game will be far poorer for being without him ... for 2 weeks.
Glad they're going the safe option with Joel. Generally speaking, once the shoulder has found its way out once, it's infinitely easier for it to do it again, and it will exercise its right to do so regularly with little coaxing unless you get it fixed. Going without surgery probably would have seen him wind up there eventually anyway.

At least he got carted off (literally, lol) to the rooms so no one could see the waterworks ... this time.
I'm really pissed about this. I thought Joel was shaping up to be Jayden Hunt 2.0. He also needed a good year of finding his feet in the AFL system after coming from a basketball background. Get yourslf ready for a big 2018 young fella

Joel Smith didn't even notice his shoulder wasn't in it's socket until he couldn't use his arm to get up. What a man.

The concern is though even after a reco it is generally weaker ie Billy Slater. It looked totally innocuous too.
