Newcombe did last year but he was already known to the coaches and had been playing in their VFL team preparing for the eventuality.

Not sure Menzie would know anything about game plan and such, or even half his teammates names, but I suppose a small forward in his first game has less expectations on him than a mid or wing would have anyway.
Appreciate the reply. I'm thinking that Wanganeen also didn't have a long stint in the VFL before coming in. Maybe Menzie doesn't come in this week, but it might be quickly.

Snelling was a week or two before he played, Durham I think a month in the VFL.

There’s not much point getting a 6 month rookie and waiting until round 20 to play them so I’d expect sooner rather than later if at all.

This is exactly my thinking. We're not playing finals, we should play these guys unless we know we're going to extend them anyway. I would also like them to give Hird a go to see if what he does can translate well to AFL level.

He's got some tricks, this guy does.

We haven't really seen him in space enough to put on the afterburners. We have seen an excellent first step. It's a neat trick. He turns his man inside out and either gets past or creates space to dish off a handball and buys time for the recipient.

Has a beautiful kicking action too.

As ant555 has said elsewhere, he's finding his feet in the system. He's not getting any easy ball but he's still managed to kick 2 goals a game to date.

I see 'it'. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take a game apart, get AFL exposure this year and a deal for next year.

This week could be the week for him. Williamstown don't really have the matchup for him and we should be getting it down there often enough too.

Thing I like about him is that the two games he's played he's kicked goals in different ways each time. first game it was mostly out the back which is fine but this week he did it on the lead and getting set shots.

Jye Menzie

Key stats: two goals, 11 disposals, three marks

“Similar to last week, he impacted the game with a couple of tackles and a couple of goals. He looks comfortable at the level. It’s all new for him in our running patterns and the way we play, but he’s committed himself to play for the team which is really important and he’s doing a lot of work off the field to catch up on what he’s missed in terms of the game plan knowledge. It’s been a good couple of weeks for him.”

Turns out I know somebody who knows him, he was told that if he had a good year in SANFL and worked on his weaknesses, he would have a rookie spot at a club. They wouldn't tell me if it was Essendon or not though. Thinking it was us, and we were worried he wouldn't make it to the Rookie draft?

Well I assume in Tassie you're only ever 1 cousin removed from someone.
