I'll concede it is a good idea to a degree because he is so young, but still think rehab if there's an injury should be done at the club.
If we were at r18 and he'd been playing ressies all year, I'd agree
alot more.
But its the start of the season and he should be doing EVERYTHING to get his body right, team structures, helping out at training and getting to know the senior players better.

I dont know him at all, but if there is one report of an alcohol involved incident, we should come down hard.

edit. Has it even been confirmed
he has gone home?

Don't think it's been confirmed he's gone home, but I can't think of any place else the club would allow him to go at this time.

Named in the vfl team for sat.

Love how bigfooty keeps us entertained with hypotheticals ......turning into possibilities, .......... . ....to "it's happening!!!!"

Due to the nine day break he would have flown over for a few days and came back.

saw the whole VFL game on the weekend and this bloke was a clear standout, he is bouncy and has loads of talent, his goal nous is brilliant and reminds me a bit of Jamie Elliot in his ability to take huge grabs from nowhere in contested situations. The kid must only be 70 kg so wouldn't be rushing him in, but the fact that he is getting in the bests in VFL in only his 3rd game is extremely promising, very happy with the selection so far, keep it up Shai

Really wrapt when we picked him in the draft. Confirmed our desire for more pace imo. Really thought he was the best at our pick but probably biased after his game at Punt Rd late last year. While the other young jets are doing well Shai can build up in the VFL but I hope to see him get a taste at some stage this year. Is he as good as Rioli was this time last year?

he is probably not quiet as good, his fitness base and body would be lower than Rioli, they are very different players, I wouldn't say Shai is a pressure forward like Rioli is, and when he does tackle he is easily pushed away by his opponents. i would compare him to maybe Jack Martin in his aerial abilities and positioning are strengths that will probably make him a great AFL player one day

Would love for him to get a taste sooner rather than later, but Stengle has probably out performed him to date, so gifting Shai a game before Tyson would send the wrong message RE: draft position being more important than VFL performance

That said if Butler starts fading like George has they both may get a look in soon enough

Stengle deserves a game first I agree but gee you have to just feel happy having these two kids waiting in the wings to play. Full of talent and could be massive for us in years to come.

Rioli's efforts were excellent last year when you consider he was playing as a permanent small forward in a team that had a crap game plan. Living with the coach probably helped as well.
If Shai can emulate that effort by the end of the season then we are well on the way to having 2 absolute gun small forwards on our hands.
Just on Rioli i wouldn't be at all surprised if he pushes up onto a wing in 2018, he has the pace/endurance combo and skill be a very good outside mid. Would kick goals in that position too. Bolton on the other hand you'd think will be a permanent small forward.
We have Butler too :thumbsu:

I thinks it's not draft position at all. The fact is Stengle is a rookie. Our TPP gets affected when we elevate rookies. Bolton is already on the senior list. Playing him in the firsts won't change the finances.....

Has anything even happened yet or are people jumping at shadows over radio rumours
Well it seems we are sending him home on a regular basis to help alleviate the homesickness.

Some around here are like firemen pouncing with hoses ready to water down any sort of conjecture.

Hope that's the Collingwood Jamie Elliott and not the pencil-thin version who transferred from Fitzroy to Richmond back when.

We also allow Martin to go to New Zealand. Should we be concerned there?
Many kids get homesick. Many are allowed to go back home at times.
Once he starts playing in the seniors, his homesickness will improve rapidly.

I wouldn't say Stengle has outperformed him at all.

Round 1 of the VFL was a slaughter and Bolton didn't play
Round 2 they both kicked 2 but Stengle had 17 to 11 touches
Round 3 Stengle kicked a goal, 9 touches and 2 tackles - Bolton kicked a point, 11 touches and 1 tackle
Round 4 Bolton 2 goals, 21 touches, 5 marks and 5 tackles - Stengle 3 goals, 7 touches and 3 tackles.

Stengle slight better in round 2, not much in round 3 and Bolton's performance in Round 4 was exceptional and was also against the reigning premiers.

I do think Stengle is probably physically more ready but not by much.

Ablett gets extra time in Geelong still.
Hogan spends a lot of time in Perth, yes his dad was sick but didn't stop him going to a music festival

**** me worrying about kids having extra time at home
