We also allow Martin to go to New Zealand. Should we be concerned there?
Many kids get homesick. Many are allowed to go back home at times.
Once he starts playing in the seniors, his homesickness will improve rapidly.

Please explain how his homesickness will improve rapidly once he is in the seniors?
He'll still be away from family and friends won't he? Who won't be there to see him?

I thought the answer would be obvious....

But here goes....

Players dream of playing in the big league. When they are not, their mind tends to wander. They start thinking of other things as they are not achieving their goals. Things like missing their loved ones becomes more paramount.

If they start playing seniors in front of huge crowds, the adrenaline of this kicks in and takes their mind off the "other things". They are happier with life as they are living the dream. Those "other things" become less important.

It's basic human psychology.

It's basic human psychology that a guy will miss home, family, friends, regardless of being meaningfully occupied for two extra hours a week.
That said Stengle and Bolton will get a chance soon with Butler, Castagna and Rioli running out of puff.

Stengle deserves a game first I agree but gee you have to just feel happy having these two kids waiting in the wings to play. Full of talent and could be massive for us in years to come.

Stengle, Bolton and Moore all have more AFL traits than Butler, Castagna and Elton. None of the latter have dominated VFL games and I think Bolton and Castagna in particular can go back at times during the season and play midfield so they get used to playing with intensity for the whole game and get their hands on the ball more. Elton and Moore can interchange at times also, but right now Elton can only go up because he seems to be getting to more contests so maybe his confidence is growing slowly.
Love the look of Bolton, a quick forward that can mark overhead is a dangerous player. Stengle looks like Shane Edwards, but at the same age is a more complete player, and Moore has great athleticism and is growing as a player. If all three come on our forward line will look a lot better, although it doesn't solve our second ruck problem.

Think this is a bit harsh on Butler but spot on about George.

It's not exactly a knock on Butler, but do you really think he does enough. He is three years in and although I like him as a player I think he has more to offer. I think he needs to get stronger and become a midfielder/forward. He might have to do that in the VFL and then come in with a few more strings to his bow. Will be a better player for it. Bolton has played 4 games and looks to be a real player.

If you read carefully, I said it would improve, not go away completely!!!!

This is right on the money. Butler and in particular Castagna are oozing 'I need a rest right now'. Impact has dropped considerably.

Agreed however youre overlooking the overwhelming satisfaction And joy that comes with making it in the big league., point being that it may soon overshadow any pangs of homesickness

Butler is still bobbing up with a few contributions , that's the life of a FP , castagna contribution have dried up considerably

Yes, he's doing plenty

The last four weeks he has had, 13, 9, 12 and 14 disposals. That is okay, but hardly numbers to be satisfied with. I understand he does a power of pressure work as well, but like Castagna and Rioli they need to lift their possession. At least with Rioli something happens nearly every time he touches the ball, but how long can you play a flotilla of small forwards that contribute such average numbers.
So all I'm saying is that for the good of their game, and in the end the team. I think they need to go back to the seconds occasionally and get some leather poisoning so when they come back in they have more strings to their bow. Hawthorn's Puopolo, Rioli and Breust, who we are sort of modelling on, all have much more impact on games because they are stronger, and get a lot more of the ball, (yes and much older).

Because of injury, Rioli had a poor game by his standards . This magnified the focus on Butler and Castsgna.
I'm confident about this trio, because they they've shown they can get the ball & have pace. This is a problem for Lennon and Lloyd...

Tend to agree. We are treading water atm.We are actually "carrying" 4 add Grimes to that list although his role is more of a negative nature which suits him but still 4 players in the side who,s disposal count for the entire game Dusty gets in a half between them will take its toll.Sure they bring pressure to the table etc but less work for others means a better outcome last Saturday night would be more achievable.

Well I reckon Grimes has been excellent, but the point of getting a bigger spread is generally needed as you say.

Disagree regarding Castagna. He has at best average foot skills and it cost us last week. I think Lloyd and Bolton would be upgrades in class. Castagna has a place on the list but we need better finishing skilled players imo

Don't agree on Grimes
