Didn’t they request shorter boundaries too? Did they go through with that?
Hadn't hear that, would'nt put it past them though. come to think of it, there was an very large amount of space between the boundary rope and the fence.
On english grounds it would be like playing test cricket in the centre square...

Call a Royal Commission!!

They certainly are trying their best - they looked to have the fence, then advertising, and then a rope inside that. And it's not as if their grounds are real big to start with.

Standard for any major game in England. The grounds don't have electronic advertising boards, the ECB have a couple of sets that they send around the grounds that sit inside the original boarding.

Just remembered that Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl

We had two MCC members at one of the clubs I was with over there who had long room privledges .

One was 'invited' to join . He was a Cambridge double blue and got nominated by a member when he was 25, this got accepted when he around 50.
He only went in once , hated it and preffered being in the outer.

The others father was a member and so was the grandfather. They were 'old' $$$$$ and Oxford educated. The grandfather ( from memory ) was at the Oval for the 1882 test and saw Spofforths 14/90 .
Also moved in the same circles as WG.

I think you need the family link or to be nominated than approved after a long wait . Sounded like there is also an interview process .

Do you (or anyone else) know what gets a member access to the long room or pavilion over every other member?

Number of years a member? You don't notice any younger people in there.

Here's more details on joining the MCC :

A club which has a 29-year waiting list to join, unless you’re willing to fast-track your way to becoming an associate member for the low price of £45,000 ($AUD85,600) and pay yearly membership fees of £500 ($950).

A club which requires life members to be nominated by a current MCC member and also pass an interview.

Feeds in to my pending psychological dissertation on the similarity between the cult of Bazball and the cult of Brexit and the ongoing detachment from reality, the certainty of British exceptionalism, and belief and feeling over fact.

The slavish adherence to the respective cults leads to their delusion and victimisation as we are all witnessing.

They are like children, both Sunak and Stokes. Everybody else's fault, nothing to do with their actions.
Observing the demise of the UK, as they plummet to irrelevance is, while inevitable, a bit sad to watch.

Think Sunak is doing it as a way to improve dismal local popularity, doubt he really cares one way or another

People who have lived in the UK would know better than me but how big is cricket over there? I get the impression it's dropped away and become almost niche/secondary to EPL

Does your average Joe in Milton Keynes follow it?
They follow it when England are winning, otherwise it's all a bit meh.

Its exactly the same as the Andymurryometer.

There was a site that measured how british Andy Murray was. When he'd lose, the percentage of news articles that called him Scottish would increase. "Scottish tennis ace, Andy Murray, has gone down in straight sets on Anna Kournikova" or something like that.

When he won, it was "British tennis star, Andy Murray, seals magnificent win over ..."

When he won Wimbledon, the Andymurrayometer hit 100% for the first time.

I know a Aussie cricket tragic living there. They don’t think it gets much coverage at all.
It’s all soccer, at least in London. Maybe other parts care more?
