Thought that comment was really funny when I’d heard from someone that he was dipping into the nose beers heavily during an injury rehab a few years ago. Maybe pick a different topic Brucey...

What are the odds of getting Gresh back for the grand final?

It would all depend on where he is at in the rehab process. These stress reactions in the back need to be properly settled before you start running as it loads up the back with every step. If we were in Melbourne, still, they could potentially get Gresh onto an Alter-G treadmill to recommence some running at a “lighter” body weight and get his conditioning up whilst still protecting his back. However, I doubt they have one of those in the hub, so there’s no way to take shortcuts.

If the Saints were aiming to get him back for the (unlikely) grand final, then they’d have two choices. They could start his conditioning earlier than planned, with the aim of having him as fit as possible for the match, but this comes with the risk of flaring up that stress reaction and completely ruling him out. Conversely, they could allow it to run its course and just fit as much conditioning in as possible, which might be very little (or even none). He’d be rather severely underdone, but no reason he couldn’t play predominantly forward. But that would be a decision for the coaches.

The overall risk is that we flare up his back for no gain, which might delay his pre-season slightly to moderately.

Seeing as my missus is a Saints fan, I too am a Saints fan by default - I am honestly elated for your boys and the loyal supporters. I honestly think especially with Hannas back in, the Saints are a legitimate chance to go all the way. Anything is possible - just ask the team you beat tonight.

Good luck against the Tigers, and hopefully it's not bad news for Paddy.
