I reckon the club was seriously considering taking Oliver but Melbourne cut our lunch by jumping ahead in the cue.

I don't remember the club ever saying they were interested in Oliver from memory. I do remember hearing how interested we were in Parish though. Anyhoo..

Then oh well. Good on Melbourne if Oliver turns out better.

According to Dodoro we would have taken Oliver if Dees took Parish.....

ESSENDON finally believes it has escaped its harsh draft sanctions with a bright future after selecting seven players to steer the club’s revival.

Thrilled chief recruiter Adrian Dodoro said the Dons rated top pick Darcy Parish the No. 1 midfielder — ahead of Melbourne bolter Clayton Oliver.

But Dodoro said if the Demons swooped on Parish his club would have partnered Oliver with powerful utility Aaron Francis.

Going a bit early but I'm hoping we didn't over look Oliver for Parish.
What? Why would you even say this? Parish has done nothing but impressed. Going into the draft I preferred Parish and still to this day I do. Give the boy a chance.

No, pretty sure we were stoked when Melbourne passed on Parish.
I think the club wanted both Oliver+Parish.
We were never getting both.

Don't get me wrong I'm stoked with getting Parish.

Who gives a rats about Oliver, honestly?

I'm sure he'll be a good player, just like I am sure Parish will be.

At this point neither have played a real game and that really is where discussion should end as far as comparing the two.

I reckon we fancied Oliver ahead of Francis, but Parish ahead of Oliver.

I think Oliver's perhaps more of a higher risk/higher reward, but Parish is the safer bet, which we needed after the last few years.

Not that any of it really matters anyway, since Melbourne selected before us.

Melbourne had a pick before us and picked Oliver. That really is where any discussion of us 'missing' him should end, because we didn't. It's that simple.

And secondly, as has been pointed out, neither of them have played that thing called senior AFL footy.
