AFL Player # 3: Darcy Parish

I'd love for Darcy to win, but to be honest I think Weitering should if he can come back again and play enough games. Not many 18-year-olds KPPs can come in and play just as skillfully and consistently as he has. Even though it's still hard to do that as a mid, it occurs more often.

Having said that, that hasn't stopped me from making jokes to bluebagger mates about weitering getting a nomination after Parish, or the fact that weitering himself says Parish will win it.

Because I'm a colossal dick.
yeah if Weitering plays the year at the level he has I agree he should win. But that's more a big if with a big guy (which is all the more reason he should get it if he does)

But comfortably behind their form for the season, which is the point. Darcy just continuing what he is doing doesn't mean winning the RS is simply a given.

I don't think I can state my point any clearer. If you disagree with it, that's fine, but if you're not going to bother reading and understanding it, please don't reply to it.

It's this year not last year. If he keeps his current form he's right in rising star contention. If he starts to feel like he belongs, he'll improve and by the end of the year be getting up to 30 per game and every bit as influential as crips in

Doesn't mean a lot if he doesn't win. Reckon if he does win it would make him slightly more attached to ess and also along with heppell and other youngsters make us slightly more attractive to come to for guys like omera, prestige etc.

Also goes a long way to saying we have the best recruiters which helps...

Not sure I agree with this...Weitering is impressive but not sure he has shown any more than Parish.

Both are very good, it's all subjective I guess...

Jade stated that for Parish to continue his current form he would be a lock for RS. I merely pointed out, based on Cripps last year that's not a reasonable claim. Now you have been arguing with me about it ever since about points that are completely irrelevant to what I said.

I really don't want to talk about it any further as I don't think the point was significant enough to deserve this much thread time and I'd much rather be talking about this superstar.

I told you very explicitly, if you're not going to read and understand what I wrote, do not respond. Yet you still haven't read it and you're still responding to it. Go away and stop wasting mine and other people's time.

So take it up with Jade seeing he made he claim - My opinion is different to Jade - Parish or any player are no lock for the RS after round 8.

Because of the size differential. KPs play against KPs. Mids play against mids. The sheer difference in size and strength is exponentially greater in KPs when you compare skinny undeveloped kids to mature big men. Smalls can compete because they aren't so physically outclassed, and they also have more scope to win contests through sheer skill far more than big guys can. And also big guys mature later because of a combination of the above and managing to coordinate their frames

Who seriously cares about the RS.

I wonder if we'll see another break for young Darcy later on in the year. The week off did him wonders.

I hope so. This year it would be counterproductive to overplay young guys in the hope of picking up a few extra points. It is far more important to develop young players properly than to win maybe two more games than we otherwise would. We've seen how Melbourne and Carlton buggered up their young players by expecting too much too early.

I don't disagree with any of this

I did take it up with Jade, and you have been taking it up with me ever since, i have no idea why. Move on.

I don't see it - reckon going hard and putting your head over the ball knowing a Selwood, Lewis, Parker etc is going to smash you is just as challenging. The size differential is equivalent.

Midfield is the most physically demanding spot on the field - both in terms of running and body contact.

Key position players need size to compete. Something that isnt really attainable as an 18 y.o

Midfielders enter the game more AFL ready than KP players or Ruckmen. There is rarely a Key position player who can light it up on a regular basis within his first 2 seasons

Not many mids play mid early in their career either - most start back or forward with very limited midfield time, if any, for the same reason. Maths comes into it here though - KP player has nowhere else to play if not AFL ready for that role, the mid can play elsewhere if good enough, even though not up to midfield duties - just more places for them.

Parish is playing full time mid, often starting in centre square, where the game is hottest, for me this just as remarkable as Weitering playing KP.
