Far out.... I repent for calling Mummy fat. Had no idea that body was under his jersey... What happened to the hotdogs?

I usually hate these rule changes each year, but I like these ones.

I really think that the below knee contact is to stop the smothering by jumping on the leg, I have noticed that it has been happening a fair bit more. I also think that it will stop players sliding in like the Gary Rohan incident. Which I think is a good thing.

The second is ok. I like the bounce at the start, it gives it a bit of occasion. Around the ground, meh.

The third is great. Mainly give Jolly an advantage. The amount of free kicks he gives away is amazing.

you like a rule, because it gives your current ruck an advantage?

Wow.

AFL; If I wanted to watch basketball, I would. o_O

AFL will soon go to a non contact sport and it will be played as touch footy to appease more Sydney mums and KB who hated the fact blokes were bigger and stronger then him.

Abolishment of the bump, dilution of the tackle, stronger person contesting for a mark gets penalised, can't hold your ground, can't wrestle in the ruck for superior position once a skill of good rucks.

Sadly there is nought we as the stakeholders of the game can do about it.

I'd like to see how they're going to police the ruck rule.

If one ruckman stands in front of the other do they pay the free against him for shepherding or against the guy at the back for running into him.

If they bump into each other from side on which one do you pay the free against? Toss a coin? (I guess that's what they already do with ruck infringements anyway)

It seems like there's at least one rule change every effn season.

They usually make up to 3 a season, bloody joke I really fail to see the need to make a change every year.

AFL rules committee are reactionary to new trends and don't let the game develop on it's own there is always a technique that counters the current trends.

I'm sure when I played basketball as a junior (may have been the 80's :) ) there used to be a light on the side of the court. Basically if there was a 50:50 call the ref would look at the light and if it was shining for the dark team, they'd get the ball. The light would then flick over to the light side - and they'd get the benefit from the next one.

The AFL has an under-utilised resource in the lights they shine after goals are kicked, signalling TV is ready to go. I'm sure if a submission was put to Bartlett, we could use those lights more often and the umps could simply spin around and look at who to give the kick to. Imagine the crowd would get into it - with everybody snapping their heads around to see who gets awarded the kick - would really add to the game IMO

With this new rule Dean Cox will be shown for the ruckman he really is. No more wrestling then begging for free's for you Coxy. :thumbsu:

Cox was often manhandled, this will suit both Eagles ruckmen. He might win less free kicks but more ruck contests. I for one like to see one-on-one ruck contests where no one else is interfering, this new rule might help that.

LEAVE THE ****ING GAME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow.
Exactly. These posters sicken me, rejoicing at the advantage this will give their own ruckmen (*cough*Eagles*cough). Whether you agree or disagree, how about thinking about what's best for the game rather than just your club's season next year.

2 & 3 are good. Make sense.

1 is very confusing... What does this mean exactly? How much force?

They also doing 80 cap for NAB and review for 2014
3 makes no sense. They're trying to have their cake and eat it. They put in a centre circle 6 or 7 years back to restrict ruckmen jumping at each other (killing off a few elite rucks in the process). Now they figure out that the players wrestle to the ball, they're saying that the highest leaper will have first dibs, every bloody time.

Just more Nic Nat moronic marketing. Farcical!

I thought that rule made a lot of sense given the PCL injuries that were occurring. Pretty much eradicated ruck impact PCL injuries.

I really don't think the rule makes that much of a difference, once the ball leaves the umpires hand you can still use your body to compete. What might happen, is Natanui will be cut off from having his leap at the ball, similar to what was happening at center bounces this season.

New rule will hurt the Essendon. Scrums and big bodied mids have been outlawed and replaced with basketballers.

Shares in Warnock just tripled.

Quinz blame the thug Roos who introduced auskick tactics. The game had forwards, mids and backman before him.

On the rule changes, I like to see the ruckman wrestle for position. Why is the AFL so hellbent in changing the game to suit the soccer mums/NSW

They will still wrestle for position after the ball leaves an umpire's hand.

And let's face it, it's not the WA, SA and Victorian fans that the AFL needs to win over. What are we going to do in protest, not watch AFL any more?

Why do they feel the need to change the rules EVERY YEAR?! Leave it alone for 5 years! Even 3!

This is what happens when you give people a job and create a committee; they will feel a need to do something to justify they're positions. Should change the name from AFL Rules Committee to AFL Rule Custodians, just to frame to them what their responsibilities are and then get them to convene only once every 2-3 years, with any rule change suggestions not enforceable until the next 2-3 year cycle has passed, whereby it will be reviewed again. Need to slow this shit down!

Rule 1 - you can still smother the footy. they are only outlawing sliding in with knees, boots (much like in soccer, which is considered dangerous play). Can't really complain.

Rule 2 - Brilliant move. Think from an umpire's point of view. With the amount of packs these days, bouncing the footy that much is bound to create strains and injuries to backs etc...why not make it just a little easier?

Rule 3 - simple enough - I think we are all sick of WWE ruck contests!

The changes might be good, the might be bad. But why does every single little thing need to cause a rule change?

Does any other sport have this?

I'm getting sick of it.

I really really really have to question some peoples objectivity.
Cox has for years run to be first at the contest then looked around to see where the opposing ruckman was then ran in front of him and threw out his arms. That my friends is a classic shepherd. Cox got away with it for years - then all of sudden he was penalised - so now he doesn't throw out his arms and doesn't get penalised. Most ruckmen follow similar patterns and get surprised when very occassionly they get penalised. This is an exact replay of the hands in the back rule. The umpires have made a rod for their own back and now there is some "new" law to change things.

You have never been able to interefere with a player in a marking or rucking contest, but now we have two new laws to spell it out so we can return to the way it was.

.

more rules ?????? the umpires cant even get the existing ones right the AFL fast turning into the gayFL
