would have to be one of the biggest dog acts in recent times if gumby left for the gc, considering all the time and effort we've put into him, so i seriously doubt he would

I totally agree. If we have a big, strong 200cm full forward clunking marks imagine what Hurley would do to a second backman?

Playing him as a permanent FF would be a massive waste of one of his main attributes (endurance).

Can see he and Hurley rotating between chf/ff/hff for many many years to come.
Can't see Gumby leaving, looks like he's absolutely loving it, and seems like an extremely popular guy down at the club.

Doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to give all that up.

Just on the forward stucture, I have a slightly different idea of what I'd like to see.

The jury is still out on Neagle, but I'm hopeful that the penny has already dropped, and his fitness will soon enough match his outstanding potential.

I'd like to see:

werwrwerweere Hurley/Gumby werwerwer
wwerwerwerDavey

Colyer/JettawrwefwsfsdfNeaglewerwerwereMonfries (as a crumbing forward)

Hurley and Gumbleton both starting out as CHFs, and Neagle at Full Forward. Gumby to run his opponent into the ground presenting up between the half forward line and Wing, Hurley to lurk between 30-60metres, with Davey crumbing any spills and keeping the ball in the 50. Obviously it would take time for them to learn each other's game, but once they do, they'd give opposition defenders a massive head ache.

Neagle is far too dangerous not to have in the side, and with one of these guys taking the third tall, they'd be given a far greater leese on the game.

With three strong leading targets, Monfries' role would become almost redundant, meanign he could go back to playing as a crumbing forward - something he had success with in his early career - and Jetta/Colyer to be the other forward bringing defensive pressure.

Realistically, do we think this can work.
Knights tried 2 play 4 talls and although they never really played much together, i dont think it wouldve worked
This time however i believe its a bit different, due to the presence of hurley. Hes much more agile than the other forwards, so he is essentially an extreme mobile marking target. SO that leaves 1 genuine full forward (neagle) and 1 genuine centre half forward (gumby), plus Hurley, playing as a mobile marking target.
Does anyone think that we can successfully play these 3 together? would like to hear some op's

I don't mind the look of Houli, and im suprised he doesn't get more of a chance.
You guys obviously see him play more often than I, so whats the deal?

Coach seems to think he has no defensive side. I personally think he is in our best 22 and will be a very good player if given an opportunity. Was dropped this year when he did not deserve to. A good kick although handballing under pressure is still an issue.

Where can we find current the contract status for all of our players? Who is out of contract this year and next year etc?

Bellchambers, Tom 2011
Danhier, Darcy 2011
Dyson, Ricky 2011
Carlisle, Jake 2011
Colyer, Travis 2011
Hurley, Michael 2012
Long, Anthony 2011
Lovett-Murray, Nathan 2011
Melksham, Jake 2011
Welsh, Andrew 2011

Rookies:
Bock, Christian 2010
Crameri, Stewart 2010
Marigliani, Marcus 2010
Silverlock, Taite 2010
Williams, John 2010

The ones I'm not sure about:

Fletcher, Dustin 2010
Hardingham, Kyle 2011

I think that's everyone.

The more I see of Hurley and Gumby playing forward together, the more redundant this makes Neagle in my mind. Just can't see him fitting in there.

Especially with the Rucks needing to rotate through somewhere (I can't see that being anywhere but forward), and the number of mobile medium sized forwards we have that are strong overhead: Williams, Reimers, Zaharakis, Monfries.

I had high hopes for him for years, but I don't think his future is at the EFC anymore.

Hey Whomby old boy, whilst I respect your opinion, I am wondering exactly what Neagle has shown to support your statement about his dangerousness????

The obvious being his attributes: pace of the mark, big strong body, sure hands, dead-eye dick kick.

His games that have impressed me range from the 3-goal performances in 3/4 of games on minimal fitness against the likes of Geelong and St Kilda, to the 2008 loss to Port where he had 13 of 14 contested possessions.

The biggest question mark is (and always has been) on his fitness base, and mental application, which surely aren't mutually exclusive.

I honestly think if he can get on top of this, so that he can run 100% of games out, he'd be kicking bags every few weeks. Permitting the midfield can get it to him

Fair enough.... although so far he has shown very little to suggest he has the mental application to make it as an AFL player.. Although this debate has been done to death in previous threads, I just can not see him making it...

Gumby is not going anywhere. He lives with Jobe so leaving would be screwing over the club which has shown amazing patience in him, the fans who have kept the faith and one of his best mates who has taken him into his home and family. Not a chance in hell of that happening.

Gumby wont go to the GC...I havent seen him in a while, but he does get a bit homesick. He looks like he is enjoying his footy a bit more now so i would say he would stay, but talking to him and his old lady (the latter almost daily) about 8 months ago, he will eventually come home. I was once confident it was going to be at the end of his 2 year stint, but tbh i havent seen him nor talked to his old girl about his plans lately and he seems happier than before. In fact i will ask her when i see her next if anyone wants to know his movements?
Oddly his old girl is a staunch freo suppoter. Vehicle number plates and all haha.

Here's to hoping Gumby will stay... but given the time and effort we've invested into him I'm sure he would love to stick around. He's best mates with Jobe isn't he?

ps: @Whomb, I much prefer to see new threads on the board about each player (so long as it's not the same subject) which are then archived to the "player watched" board after a week of non-posting rather than having to monitor another board for new posts.

I highly doubt you're going to change the posting habits by persisting with that linking.

That's not criticism, just feedback. :)

Cheers.

We're working on how to get more people visiting there, so that's definitely worth considering. :thumbsu:

had a chat with his old lady today, havent caught up with her for a few days. She says he will stay with essendon, particularly because they showed faith in him. Interestingly also said all the young fellas (which is prob 3/4 of your club) loved knights because they relate to him well, being sort of young and they find him very approachable. Definately no in-house war with the coach at all.

good to hear mate! I know your Gumby mail is rock-solid. I remember you saying a few months ago that Gumby was worried that if he didn't play some games soon he'd be chopped liver in the AFL, so I'm not surprised he's keen to repay the faith.

Cheers
