Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Gumby isn't playing full forward that much ever since Ryder and Hille got into form and Hooker going down.

Hopefully iy dont affect his development.....oh and he is still being ignored on the leads quite to often.

why would not playing full forward affect his development when he's a centre half forward?

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

I reckon he would make a key backman. The team could be built around him as one.

His set shots for goal last night caused this consideration.

That's just stupid.

Even on an off day against the best side in the comp, he still presented as a target.

His set shots at goal are controversial, but there have been plenty of times where his conversion rate has been good, if not, better than other "budding" forwards in the league that are his age.

People are so quick to forget. I'd be curious to see what you were thinking during the bulldogs game...

FFS, it's his first year in three, his improvement will come with time and experience, and his engine will push him there... an engine that fits nicely in the CHF position. Especially when he isn't taking screamer marks, which is very, very rarely. And no, I'm not basing my confidence on anything other than what Gumby has shown to me so far in 12 consecutive rounds.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Doesn't help that he had 2 blokes on him all night and almost everytime we kicked it to him it was on top of his head giving him no chance. Melksham's kick in the 3rd quarter that he slipped over the top for Gumby to run onto was lovely though. That's the kind of delivery he needs as he's still still pretty skinny.

Re: 3. Scott Gumbleton

Knighta hinting in the press conference that Gumby will be given a rest in the 2nd half of the season, and he wants to give some other 1st or 2nd year forwards a go. Neagle's last chance, maybe we will get to see Still or Carlisle as well?

To me it looks like Still and Carlisle are too skinny to play key forward at the moment. I assume Neagle will get a last chance (even it's just to raise his trade value) along with Daniher. Maybe Laycock will try to limp out onto the ground with them so his career doesn't end.

His injury (http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/news.asp?nid=7681) isn't worthy of a toast and he is expected to miss the rest of the year but a lot of courage shown from the young man to come back onto the ground in the 2nd Half with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

That takes f'ing guts. One of the worst injuries (in terms of pain) you can suffer. To be able to come back on the ground and have a contribution is massive.

Even if we do not see him again this year it really has been a successful year for Gumby. Been able to get back on the park, play consistent footy and show us the potential we all knew he had. He will only improve.
