Player Watch #30: Reece Conca

Jacko won a JD medal and was a lot harder than a Conca and was used for a different purpose. Put Conca on Ablett and see if he can keep him to less possessions and kick a couple on him.
Jacko was a hard tagger and would have been useful last year in the EF
Tuck was also hard and tough and an inside player and could still rack them up .conca couldn't get in the coal face like him, but his skills are better than both those boys . I think you're comparing him to the wrong blokes bc Townsdnd and Moore were added to the list obviously bc we were deficient here once the Tuck and Jacko retired
Conca at least halved the contest with Ablett

If he can finally catch some injury luck will be a very good player - important too as he plays sold, hard inside and tackles well.

Considering he has played bugger all for 18 months he stepped in nicely. :thumbsu:

I thought he was great, particularly in the 2nd half. In his absence through not seeing him play for ages I started to think he was a bit too similar to lots of our other mids like Miles, C. Ellis etc. But he has a completely different skill set to all of them. His speed closing in on the mark is so handy and he actually tackles. Good player to have in the team.

I'll put my hand up, I thought you were a dud Reece, I apologise. What really peed me off was when you hit that bloke from behind, looked overweight, and just seemed so ordinary compared to Dyson.

But I was wrong. Your quick-thinking in heavy congestion was outstanding on the weekend.

It's a bye this week, enjoy a well-earned, home-cooked lasagna, and I look forward to seeing you play every game for the rest of the year.

P.S. Apologies to FJ too, I now see what you saw.

god i remember that, usually I would defend our players character, but couldn't bring myself too that time

someone on the main board made a comment once, what is it with RFC players and hitting people on the head? Conca Vickery, Rance :(

Vickery was just having a typical "oopsy me a dumb dumb" momment, Rance was frustrated., but reeces had that malice behind it, it was so disappointing coming from one of our own.

I watched some of his game the other night, and his performance in the VFL and thought "this guys hamstring better not **** up once more or ill spew up"

One of the most unfairly maligned players we've ever had, right from the moment we took him over Dyson Heppell. Dyson was tipped to go earlier, had a strong NAB cup and then got a rising star nomination in round 1. When Dimma left Conca on Milne on that second Friday night of the year he was immediately dubbed another Tambling over Franklin or Fiora over Pavlich. He actually had a really good year that year but it got overlooked because "Conca at pick 6 lol".

A combination of his dog shot on that GWS player, his stomach not looking fully ripped in the photo of the dog shot, and then his inability to get on the park since then has seen his reputation absolutely smashed by both Richmond and neutral supporters. In the few games he's played since he's been rusty and had shreds torn off him for it. For the last 18 months all I've heard about him is how he's a fat shit truck and a POS human being.

So glad to see him performing well on his return. He's a 20 touch midfielder and one of the few who is willing to do the selfless defensive things like putting a block/sheppard on for his teammates. He's got great lateral movement as well and can weave his way through traffic. If his hammy stays on it's bone he will be a good player for us with the potential to be a gun.

there was also that mis-kick to Lids in the Elim that cost us a goal on the turnover..but it was stupid to even select him for that game, too big an ask.

I'd love to see him in the center corridor as much as possible with ball in hand, the place of maximum danger but also maximum potential to hurt the opposition if you can think your way through it, and Conca can.

Reece is a gun, just needs a good run at it.

Shouldn't be put anywhere near the trade table- prob wouldn't get much simply cause of his injury history, yet nothing short of an absolute gun would really even be an upgrade on him.

So, losing him is just basically robbing our midfield.
Been saying it for ages- we need him, back him in.

Vickery however. Losing patience and always backed him. It's just that we don't have many other talls..

Didn't the majority of this board want him delisted or traded a few weeks back?
Not me ...I'm firmly in the piss Ellis and Vickery off group
But I'm not in the get rid of Conca group
Think if he can get a break with injuries will be a very good player for us
Can't make up my mind if he's deceptively quicker than I think or if he reads the play quicker and is just were the ball is going To be earlier than others .....either way the guys a footballer ..and we could do with a few more of those

Big like.

Again- not gonna be a game breaker like Dusty, but a pure midfielder which we've sorely lacked and missed.

I like it.

Other teams almost always have players patrolling the centre square 100% of the time. We sometimes leave it bare. I’d love to see Conca given the instructions to stay in the centre square to defend / initiate quick rebounds. One of the few on the list I’d back to stick a tackle when it really counts.

Always had the talent, just sooo many injuries. If he can simply play we will be so much better. The drum of contested mids I keep banging on will get a lot less loud if he stays fit.
